I have a 93. I was driving down the road and suddenly the car was slowing down.
As I step on the gas it doesn't go faster.
Leaving a dead stop I can feather the pedal up to about 20MPH after a long distance.
What is wrong?
Help is appreciated.
Hard to give a sound diagnosis with the limited info provided but it looks like your post has sat for a few howevers so I'll make a stab at a diagnosis and give you a bump.
I had a cat go bad on my 02 impala and it would run/idle fine but made no power...ie feather throttle and I could nurse it up to speed. So withthe info provided I'd lean towards cats.
With the limited info it could be a lot of things. So I'm shooting in the dark and I'd start with the easy things..look at the engine bay for obvious problems (ie: burned ignition wires, loose connections, discolored fluids etc)....pull codes (sometimes codes are stored without a check engine light....check fuel pressure if it looks good sitting in park....check it under load (tape gauge to windsheild and see what its really doing), check for spark at each cylinder, check catalyt converters,

Both computers were rebuilt about a year and a half ago.
Ran perfect since then. Ran perfect when I left the house until I was about 3 miles away. It wasn't gradual, it happened right away. I'll check a few things listed.....Thanks I guess I'll have to take it in.

Good luck with it and let us know what you find out.
I'll spare everyone my "they need 3 things to run" speech....
Let's get to troubleshooting. Start with the fuel system. Check your fuel pressure at the rail and tell me what you have. Hook up gauge, key on but don't start, tell me the guage reading and how long pressure holds after 2 second prime.

I agree with you but first I look for the obvious and easy then

We'll go from there.
The symptoms are typical of a clogged fuel filter. Any history on the maintenace of the car?
for a starting point.
Seems like this would be a nice easy solution.
A clogged filer might have good fuel pressure at idle, but have no flow at speed and load. But usually they exhibit symptoms gradually at the higher speeds where flow is greater, like 70 mph.
ICM would likely kill the engine complete and not make it slow down.
Even a melted plug wire is not going to slow down that V8 where you could not get up to 20 mph. Even 2 or 3 melted wires (by coincidence) it will probably keep going but shake a lot.
Knowing the FP would be nice.
I would think cats would be a gradual thing also and not happen suddenly.
I can't believe the **** flying around in the wind in here. There is NOT enough info to even remotely give even a semi accurate diagnosis.
You have to be MUCH more specific with symptoms, sounds, engine lights, idle quality, and anything else you can think of.
I guess I'll throw in my diagnosis based on the info...maybe all your tires are flat or your foot feels like its pushing but its really not.
EDIT: Didn't see you added some info. Still too vague in my opinion. Your going to have to do some basic troubleshooting like advised above. With something like this START SIMPLE. With no engine lights and the fact the car is running it points to fuel delivery, I'd start there.
