I just finished painting my Vette last fall. I finally had a nice day to drive it to work and wouldn't you know it - some joker backed into it while parked in the parking lot. At least he came in and let me know. He didn't think he really hurt it but the estimate was $1,300.
It seems like I can park way out in a parking lot all by myself and when I come back someone has parked right beside me and there are plenty of other places to park. It's like there is a huge magnet that just attracts IDIOTS. Does this happen to anyone else?

I had a car load full of mexican's in a riced out honda civic hit and run mine in a parking lot.
I only found out because i went back into the store and the manager let me see the camara's.
I have to pay for it out of pocket cause i dident want an accident on the car fax.
I think people do that thinking it will drive the value of there car or truck up so they can sell it and get a car like ours. Best thing to do is leave and then come back with your $100 car and do it right back to them. and then wait for them to come out.
I came out of a hardware store only to see some guy in a hummer trying to turn out of his parking space with his wheel up against the side of my car, and trying to figure out why his mega hummer wouldn't go forward.
I watched him get out and check the left wheels, then walk around to the other side only to start laughing.
If I hadn't walked up and pounded on his window, he was getting ready to leave.
I got his insurance info, and it was $900 for the damage.
and yea, I parked it there and he was already parked when I got there.
I figured he would back up, but the people in front of where we were parked had left, and he was just going to drive forward.
I guess those things are a pain to back up ..............
I know people have no respect for other peoples cars. But I also put some of the blame on the owners of the lots.
They use the smallest space allowable for cars and it is a scratch and a ding waiting to happen. They know some of these spaces are too small but DGAF. And then people get mad when someone takes up more than one space. In my ram, at some places, I HAVE to take more than one.

At my school each side of my cars tires touch the yellow lines.. Now the Vette is decently wide but imagine that, I am tempted to double park (probably look like Im only taking up one spot anyhow) I just dont want my car keyed (they have a lot of cameras in the parking deck but im still worried)..
I guess I will just have to drive it into class, take the top down and its like 2 giant seats...
One day after I bought my $35,000.00 brand "new" truck it was hit in a parking lot by the p.o.s. car next to me. All kinds of empty spaces, but this guy had to park right there so close to me. I know for sure he did it because his car door lined up perfectly with my dent and his door had a small dent. It had to be obvious to him he did it. I waited 1/2 hour for him to come back but he didn't. I do know for sure that there are no cameras on this lot and I had nothing to prove it legally. Let's just say I left him a notice of my disapproval. (size 12) Was I wrong?

Yes every wrong. You needed a bigger boot I'll let you use mine. I got a size 13 double wide redwing
My biggest pet peeve when it comes to parking somewhere is the nitwits who don't even think twice about swinging open their door into the car next to them. There is nothing I hate more than getting nicks and dings from car doors. It tells you that the person next to you didn't even give the slightest bit of thought, awareness, or politeness.
As **** as I am, I have formulated various rules and rituals for parking my last several cars. The foremost of which is to use a public lot only as a last resort if nothing is available on the street. If I have to go into a lot, of course I seek out the end spaces. I also prefer lots/parking structures with angled versus straight spaces. The ONLY time I received a ding in my last couple of cars was in a moment of weakness where I just went for a random space.
The sole ding I received in the Corvette was in a parking structure at a local mall where I was going to see a movie. The wife and I were in a bit of a hurry so I did not go through the usual search for an end spot. So I took one of the angled spots down some aisle where there were not many other cars (and none next to me when I parked). When I came back, some jerk in a large pickup parked next to the passenger side and there was a decent sized chunk of paint taken out of the rub-strip on the door. I was able to touch up reasonably well but it reinforced my philosophy that you should assume that whoever parks next to you is likely to be some jerk.
The fact of the matter is that most people are not raised by thier Parents the way people used to be. When I was growing up my Parents made sure to instill in me the values that were passed on to them by their Parents. And now I am trying to do the same with my children. I dont beleive this has anything to do with ethnicity or race! I do beleive that it has everything to do with Values, or the lack there of.

the sad thing about all this if we did anything to there car or truck we get a fine. but if they do it they get away with it. We need to follow these people home and teach them not to mess with the Vettes.

I am fortunate enough to have a garage where I work. At the end there are two spaces that go straight in and the others are slanted. The first slot there is usually a mercedez parked there so I always let him have it out of courtesy, as he has been using it longer than I have parking in the garage. I park next to him. Then the next one is slanted so i am relatively safe when parking at work at least. Now I will go find some wood to knock on.

Similar to where I work. At the subterranean level I park on the spaces are all straight in but there are some hugely oversized ones near the end walls. I get there early enough that I almost always get one of those spaces and, in fact, it seems pretty much that everyone else has their favorite daily space as I always notice the same cars in the same general spots.
Regarding the "values" theory, that is only partly correct. Back in the late 1970s I had just gotten my 1970 RoadRunner repainted after an accident. I recall being parking in a lot somewhere and I was still in the car when I heard a loud bump. The person who pulled in next to me was an elderly lady (who apparently had some values once-upon-a-time). I jumped out and looked at the ding from her door and asked her what the hell she was doing? She did not seem too concerned and walked away. I hate to generalize but I have noticed that "age" seems to instill a lack of concern with issues of politeness such as swinging open car doors or farting out loud in public

Uh oh...I knew the day would come when I finally had to 'fess up....years ago while working at a slaughterhouse with just a gravel lot to park in, some "idiot" made it a point to park...literally..within 6 inches of my drivers door with their nice shiny car. No way I could get in, and being a member of the "big and tall" set I had to SQUEEZE through the passenger side window as I had parked close to the fence to take up as little space as I could and could only get the door open far enough to roll down the window.
So after finally getting in and being pissed to no end...I opened the drivers door and repeatedly slammed it into the jerks nice car door. That was one time when I was happy I drove a POS to work. Call it a moment of weakness or just "road rage" while parked...but backing out and seeing the damage I did gave a little sense of satisfaction. Yes I know it was wrong...yes I know I should have taken the high road and done nothing. However...I saw where he/she parked the next day...it was WAY back by the end of the lot, so maybe somebody learned their lesson
