Notice there are three catagories of problems,
I can tell by the continued questions by the OP that he has yet to go to Batee.com..........

OP, GO TO BATEE.COM and get your answers.

If you go there and perform the re-flow of all the solder points he identifies, you'll have your "ground' problem solved.

Understand there is no single "ground strap" that has come loose......it is Solder pads that have cracked with age that has caused your "ground' issues.

Will you now go to Batee.com?

I've been trying to get my Project 1986 back on the road again and dealing with the dash problems myself. Purchased a used dash form a member here and it still did not work. Went through the batee.com procedures and still no joy. Pulled out the FSM and checked the harness. One wire listed as "Sensor Ground" had no continuity to ground. Ran a new wire and everything is fine now. It is black wire with a white stripe on the larger connector.

Now I need to find less "hot" bulbs now. May try to do LEDs

Hope this helps.

Yes^^^I too put a hot bulb in there. Sadly, I place a spit wad in the Photo diode housing to counter act thr brighter/hotter settings. The diode thinks its darker outside since the light is reduced from the spit wad....and then it lowers the brightness/hotness of the bulbs and then it seems much better.

Darn, the backlight on the cluster went out again, stayed off all day? It work all week-end, albeit in cool wx. It is warmer today, wonder if it's a heat related. Based on feedback, I'll get to the ground if I can hoist the car. I can tell the cluster is working as I can faintly see all of the information correctly displayed on all screens. This appears to be a contrast issue, the cluster is always powered up as I can see it.

I have the 86 Corvette Service manual on CD. Anyone know on what page of this 1110 pager I could find a diagram that pinpoints where G104 might be?

Thx,
-Vince

G104 is located just below cylinder #7. You can reach it from above. You should see wires going to the side of the block and attached with a screw/bolt. The only reason I went after that ground point in fixing one of the many probs in our dash was that the windshield wipers acted funky at the same time the dash acted up. They both use G104.

I have a list of probs with my 84 but fortunately it still fires up, first question is where is the turn signal fuse located and my radiator fan stopped operating and is it because I had to remove my dash cluster to get repaired and the fans sensor maybe located in he unit? I spliced the fan wires and connected to a power source and it worked fine.

This thread is bordering on the hilarity/sad side of reality.

Charv66, Will you confirm that you have yet to visit Batee.com??

Your two week odyssey with electrical gremlins may have been cured in a single afternoon.......

Horses being led to water come to mind every time I see this thread being bumped...

Default I'm lazy...

For $600 you can have a brand new cluster with componets that will last another 20 years. It was worth it to me being I have very little time and tools. $600 for a new cluster with labor and shipping ain't bad. It was better than 2 or 3 weeks of trial and error troubleshooting after work.

I hear you...

I'm not quite at that point yet though. The cluster has already been reman'd. It technicaly works well, its only the intermittent contrast issue. It will sometimes go black but you can still faintly see all the data displayed. I found a large connector near cyl #7 today, dirty as hell, I cleaned it and reassembled it.

Wow, $600 vs $30 in bulbs is somehow "good"

I've heard it all now.

A $9.99 Soldering Iron, A Phillips Screwdriver, nut driver set is all it takes to perform this job......And I remember your thread when you were having issues as well.....

Reading the schematics is easier than reading what Batee.com posted?? He clearly points out exactly which components to attack...you merely need to look on the board for the alphanumeric designation and then hit it with the soldering iron for ~15 seconds......

No...I won't stop.....You aren't the first Hard Head that wouldn't listen and you won't be the last. Plus, we need to head off these idiotic ideas of what to do......The Batee.com is the absolute EASIEST fix......you are just too stubborn to open your eyes.

I don't want others to read your thread and thing for ONE SECOND that you have a better answer than what is proven over and over and over....Hell I've been here since 2006......and that site has NEVER FAILED those that listen and read.

That Site has failed EVERYONE that refused to read and learn. GabezC4 is one of the ONLY examples of one that refused to learn. $600 sounds pretty good.....

Default Hey, J-Moke-Hammons

Dude, I read everything Batee had to say over and over again. HTF am I going to perform the tasks needed when I don't have their tools required?

Up at 6AM, home at 6PM, baths, dinner, putt'em to bed. Well, its 8:00PM by then. Some of us trade our mechanical pride for time brother. Besides, $600 is a good price. I helped a local shop make some money as well as their vendors. I'm supporting our fellow brethren. You sound like a bitter guy. Maybe it’s because the Oilers moved from TX to TN and ditched their uni's and helmet? I don't know, but your comments are regularly more negative than positive. How bout this. Come up to Concord and help me out when I need it? What do you say?

You can try this:

http://www.lightbulbsdirect.com/page...XXenon/X5G412V

Works fine in my 87.

There's also a seller on the auction site, witchcityeng. He sells a bulb kit with all the bulbs in the IP, for $20, and that includes new sockets.
