It makes for the best compromise I can find between the filler panel and the bare license plate. This cover might be technically illegal in some states, but I've been using them in MD on both of my cars for years and have never had a problem.

I know I bought the first one from Eckler's, but I won't do business with them anymore. Bought two more from Mid-America. Try this:

http://tinyurl.com/2gxxp4f

I'd prefer to no longer do business with Mid-America, either, and I'd expect that there are other vendors who offer the same product.

Three things to know about these items:

1. They scratch easily. Be careful with them.

2. They will eventually get cloudy if the car sees much ultraviolet radiation. My LT4 car is an outdoor car, and the cover on it is now quite opaque. The '94 gets the garage, and its cover is still nice.

3. You'll want to remove them when you wash the car, because water will get behind them and they'll cloud up on the inside until they dry out.

Live well,

SJW

Here they are.

Why didn't you put in the center so the plate would appear in the same location it would if it had been mounted normally? Were there clearance issues? Also was this the same Swiftmotors unit CorvetteMike posted a link too?

I live in CA but register my cars under my parents who live in Michigan. No front plates, no smog. Not looking forward to when they retire in NC and I have to figure something new out.

maybe I'll buy a house in Detroit for $500 and set up residence there.

I'm pretty sure NC does not require front plates.

As long as its not an inspection state I'm cool then! Gotta admit I love my Michigan plates though.... this one won't work on an NC plate

It's really easy. Just remove the two T15 torx head screws located on the bottom of the cover. They sit in the gap area.

I would rather pay the $17 ticket that put the front plate on.

No wonder so many people have warrants out for not showing up in court! There is no reason for them to be so damn greedy on fines!

I prefer to keep my money and not give it to the government enterpise system so I'm a weirdo and just mount my plate plain and boring.

Guess I ran out of statements around 25 or so.

Yeah, why doesn't that dumb cop do something socially useful like teach spelling?

Actually, I was happy to pull off that cover and put on a front plate. I think the white CA plate looks good with my green car and helps make that George Jetson front end look more like a motor vehicle than a giant wedge doorstop. On a different vehicle that doesn't have that recessed area (like a Miata) I agree that a front plate looks out of place.
