Default spark plug wires

Changed plugs recently and while yanking a wire... this happend

So is it time for new wires?
Not sure if they are original cuz thats scary being i have an 87 with over 120,000 on it. They are 8mm premium silicon SuperMags.
They have some black coloring on areas, Could that be damaged wire or just oil smeared on it.

Also if anyone has a pic of how the wire brackets where mounted cuz just about all mine are broke, and i need new ones?
Also... whats at least a decent wire to get, anything to avoid?

You can order the plug looms and wire holders online from Mid-America Motorworks (MAM) and shet.

You can buy the high-temp, corrugated flex tubing at any auto parts store. Be sure and protect the coil wire with the flex tubing and the wires on the passenger side since they take the brunt of engine heat due to their location.

Here's how the factory routed them at least on the 86:

The high temp corrugated tubing is only on the passenger side. But you can put it on what ever plug wires you want. I'd say the reason why it is on the passenger side is to protect the wires from abrasion and to keep the wires from touching metal. You'll see in the pics of the L98 engine in the first link.

What plug wires are you looking at going with? I tried AC Delco, but they were long and wouldn't hardly click on the spark plug. I put in Belden, and they too are super long, but the #6 boot started pulling off the wire when I was trying to put it on the spark plug. I wasn't able to push the boot back on further down the wire so I could install it. So, I'm just gonna return that set and go with something else. I'm probably looking at going with Taylor Spiro Pro or Street Thunder. Spiro Pro is on there now, and the fit is good and the boots are solid and easy grasp.
not sure what to get. Looking for a middle brand. Not the cheapest but not over the board expensive.
is it fine if i get it from autozone or advance auto parts?
i actually may get from carquest cuz my work gets stuff from there cheaper, but i looked on there website and cant get a general price or brand of product so im wondering if that is some unreliable stuff? any thoughts on that?

What about napa wires
http://www.napaonline.com/Search/Det...+50012+2012030
is it worth the deal???

Otherwise i may go Acdelco from mid America
http://www.napaonline.com/Search/Det...+50012+2012030

I Want them to fit right, dont really wanna deal with custom cutting wires. If taylor or accel are same price as AC delco and are supposed to be sturdier, may get them.

So anyone get NAPA wires and whats your experience?

I went with NAPA/Belden Super Blue Premium 7mm plug wires in my '92. The cost about $55 bones (with a 7% in-store discount for AAA Auto Club members).

That flex tubing is a pain to install on the passenger side as you have to unbolt that metal bracket. And then you have to use something to open it up so you can get the bottom wire out cause it likes to close up when you tighten it down.
yea i got the same stuff. so is it not the right tubing if it melted?

k Well finished my wires at like 3 AM so took like 4 hours. Took longer than i thought cuz i was thinkin alot about how to go about it being my first time. I didnt know how to hook the 4 hole wire looms to the clips, i think i got the wrong ones or the clips are missing something. I just put them on there and tucked them back there and it seems to work fine.
Put the tubing on the one side.
Definitely runs smoother and doesn't seem to struggle to accelerate. Ill post pics soon...

Been a long day at Bloomington Gold
