What about modifying the ball so it could slide up and down in order to release the shifter. I have been thinking about doing something like this as I don't care for the stock 85 auto shift ****. My 66 Caprice has a t handle with the release **** being the top part of the handle. To release the shifter all you do is push down with your palm. Don't have to move the thumb at all. I think modifying a round shift ball would be doable.

Once the button is removed you need to take off the snapring that holds it in place. Then just pop it off.

Kelc, did you just pull it off too? Mine doesn't seem to want to come off.

It was a long time ago.I think after i took out the button there was something inside holding it on.A thin piece of metel shaped like a horse shoe. I stuck a screw driver inside and bent it and it came off.I will see if i can find a picture of what im talking about
