Today, my wife and I dropped her Jetta off at the VW dealer to have a TPMS sensor checked out.
I drove my 91 Vette and parked, While there a guy wearing a C4 jacket asked about my Vette and said, he had a 96. Thinking I would have a nice conversation about our Vette's he then told me his 96 was the first year with the Independent Suspension and the C5 and C6's didn't even have it and proceeded to explain to me what the independent suspension was.
I said, all Vette's from 63 to present have independent suspension. He then said, his Vette wasn't made out of Plastic and I said C4 Vette's are made out of SMC Sheet Mold Composite and he just shook his head in disagreement and said that's not from what he's read. Then, I realized he clearly had no clue of what he has.
By now, I was looking around for Camera's because I thought I was being Punked or something!
Luckily, my wife called me over because the manager was done with the paperwork. What a way to start off the weekend!...
I think I met his brother last weekend, all the attitude and dumb as a box of hammers. Didn't have a Corvette jacket but did have the t-shirt and hat (C3 t-shirt...C6 hat )
After thinking about the conversation, I kind of felt sorry for him going through life with that kind of attitude. Makes me wonder what else he thinks he knows.

You should have asked him. I'm sure he would have made the time to tell you all about all...
Guys like that actually feel they're doing you a favour by filling in all the empty gaps of your education and life experience!
sometimes all it takes to put the brakes on something like that is just a quick statement like "Man! I feel like killing somebody!" repeat several times if you have to while blinking your eyes before he stops listening to himself talk and suddenly realizes he may have opened the wrong door to conversation...

Ignorance is a lack of knowledge. Stupidity is running off at the mouth concerning things you're ignorant about. Heck I'll be the first to admit I was very ignorant about the "inner workings" of C4 vettes before I found this forum. Wasn't aware of SMC...dozens of sensors scattered everywhere...OPTISPARKS...and I would mention the Bose Gold stereo system but so far mine's still cranking out AC/DC to my satsifaction
Was talking to a fellow C4 owner about the vette cruise I'm trying to get organized for sometime in september. He recently aquired an 84 and had quite a bit of work done to it, but mostly by someone else because he just doesn't know that much about the car. I rattled off some of the things I've learned here and he later spoke to my daughter...they work in the same bank branch when he's in town...and told her I seemed "very knowledgable" about vettes I told him that pretty much everything I know I learned from this forum and paging through my FSM's. I told him to check out this site and he'll learn more about his car and vettes then most mechanics that work on them do. I guess I haven't really had a run-in with any true vette idiots, but I know they're out there and my day will come. At least I'll be as well informed as I can be by continuing to read the tech and search sections...as long as I don't pay TOO much attention to the Texas Hound vs Quebec Kitty fur exchanges....but they are fun to follow
