The solution is simple. Buy a C6. Everything is new and under warranty. However I thoght doing all these repairs was part of the fun of the hobby????? Just remember these cars are not throw away cars like all the rest of the stuff out there. When big stuff goes on them they go to the scrap yard .Thats where all those Nissan 300Zs, Mitsubshi 3000GTs, Supra turbos and all the rest are. These cars have value and will be around for decades. There Corvettes and something is really special about them. Just keep that in mind when you get discouraged.
Well said!
Mike, these cars are a labor of love...when the love is gone...well, you know.
This might be a good time for a breather, and enjoy the Holidays.
I want to retire soon, so C6 doesnt even cross my mind. I have 5 nice hot rods to drive every day already. Im never going to buy a new car anyway. I like the ones I already have.
With that being said, I realy like my vette and would never consider selling my vette.
Im on Christmas vacation till Jan 3rd 2011. I told my wife I did not want to work on cars on the break. Im still getting a clicking out of my driver side. So I guess its time to do all 6 u-joints now. Im a nut about keeping my vette in good running order. So I guess I will start today on them. The u joints are original and have 250K. I guess its time.
Mike: Mine has 60,000 miles and breaks something everytime I look at it. Just noticed that the right exhaust is higher than the left which means the rubber strap that holds the rear Y has snapped (again). Good reason though to tell my son that he can't use it until it's fixed (or at least until it stops raining). Also just noticed that I'm now a 10 year member. I got here looking for info on: Why did my head gasket blow at #7 with barely 50,000 miles? Why are cold starts so hard and have been since the day I bought it new? How do you get the friggin' mufflers to line up evenly when you replace them (see broken strap above). How do you re-stab the Distributor - it must be off because it sure runs like crap after I reinstalled it? You've probably accomplished all of these things and more - Congratulations!
I found my clunk. Hopefully I will have the energy to get this side back together today. Then the other side tomorrow. I have dropped the back portion of the exhaust. Is there enough room now to get the driveshaft out now? Thanks for replies. Mike
I found Presion bearings at O'riely today supposedly made in the USA.

Hey Mike !
You are our "Real Time" repair manual. You can't stop now. It's not easy to keep the mileage going up without the support team following close behind.
My '93 had over 260 K on the odo when I sold it in July and I got the '92 the next day.
The '92 only had 36 K on the odo so I figure I can get at least the same, with a little help along the way.

By the way where is that damn boat ?
Happy Holidays to you and the family.

Happy holidays to you Larry.
Well I got the driver side done today. Next is the pass side. Any tips on getting the driveshaft out next?
Mike you know when you have nothing to do you will be bored.
I'm just glad we have the skill to take care of our C4s,otherwise they would be abandoned.
The last time I had to change a u-joint was on my firebird 25 years ago. What I remember is that it was no fun. Now having to change 6 of them, I can see that really pissing me off, and I think I am a lot more patient than I used to be. Good luck. Is the rear universal bolted to the rear end?
One of the things i've noticed (being a 57 model also) it's alot harder climbing on and off that creeper. Back in the day i didn't even have a creeper. ex not included. Hang in there Mike, your doing a great job.
Yup. the drive axle's have 4 u joints. Im going to get started shortly with the pass. side, then on to the driveshaft.
Mike, the drive shaft will come out without removing the C beam. You may have to massage the rib in the tunnel on the drivers side slightly with a hammer to gain a little clearance.
Hang in there Mike. Replacing u-joints isn't sexy, but with 250K on them, they don't owe you anything. Look at the bright side, you don't have to replace them till you hit 500K.
Have a great Christmas and a happy, healthy, repair free New Year
But its not over yet. Yes Pete, I checked my diff. fluid. it was to the top.
But I have a rear broken leaf spring. It has shards comming away from the leading edge on one side. I had forgotten about it untill today. Its been like this for 10+ years. I think I will change it. Any recommendations? I want a stock spring.
