But its not over yet. Yes Pete, I checked my diff. fluid. it was to the top.
But I have a rear broken leaf spring. It has shards comming away from the leading edge on one side. I had forgotten about it untill today. Its been like this for 10+ years. I think I will change it. Any recommendations? I want a stock spring.
Mike
VBP and Van Steel sell them . Yes they sell stock, performance and extreme. I just had to put it out there, you already have bilsteins shocks.
Hey Mike,
I know how it feels to work and work on your ride and it nevers seems like your done, esp. on a daily driver. Just tell yourself as your opening the new parts that they are just what you wanted for Christmas. Your a go-to guy here and many have you to "Thank" for their own cars rolling down the road and for that we wish you a Merry Christmas. Copper

Mike,
What brand of rear wheel bearings did you use. Let us know what it takes to get the drive shaft out. I did my pinion seal over the summer and tried to get the drive shaft out but I could not. I am off until Jan. 5th, working on the inside of the house. Model year 1955 and still running pretty good, a few moans and groans!
I bought them at O'riely (kragan). I mostly buy my parts from them. I drove the car today and it sounds great now. Drive shaft is next. I will let you know how it goes. I have to replace my broken leaf spring too. That should be fairly easy.
Mike, sorry to hear the repairs are getting you down. Sounds like the car is shot - I'll come out there and get rid of it for you, no charge!
Did the U-joints on one side of mine last spring, was going to do the other side to keep things even. To paraphrase the song, "Spring turned to summer and summer faded into fall, now it's winter and hate to say, I never got to it at all!"
Hang in there - you have a wealth of experience and have provided advice and support to so many of us. Look at the bright side, your Vette is now good for the next 15 or 20 years before you have a bad U-joint!
great mike you do a lot of work on your corvette.lets see if i ever do something like that.it looks very complicated.do you have fun working on yur corvette?

I have always been too poor to pay someone to work on my cars. So I learned how myself. There are great rewards for learning how your car works. When you make the repair yourself, there is a good feeling you get when its all done and you did it all by yourself. Never to late to learn. And this is the place right here to learn.

My sentiments exactly, brother! Mike, had to crack up on the pics of your car in the garage, because you and me were doing the same thing last Saturday and Sunday. Saturday was fuel pump in the Blue One (87'). Sunday was power window regulator and idler pulley in the Red One (95'). And yes, the cars were in the garage, but the rain was blowing drops inside (I had to crack up seeing the water on the back of the car...me too!).
It took me 4 1/2 hours to do the power window regulator and Thank God for the FSM that came in the mail Saturday! Didn't damage the door panels, crack the glass or break anything and it worked perfect. I'm sick of working on cars too, but it's what we gotta do!
My vette was my 2010 project. I wanted to give it a makeover which I think turned out rather well. I spent $.00 on my vette this year for labor.
My 2011 project is my el camino. So much easier to work on. Gobs of room everywhere to work. Im just going to re paint it back to black. Im taking a break before that happens. Till at least after Christmas.

Wow! 250k miles and really only minor things wrong with the car. That's damn good in my book.
Speaking of El Camino's, I had a 71 that I sold in 1995. I bought it in 1976 for $2000 when it had 50k miles. It was the standard Chevy 350 with a 2 barrel carb. When I sold it, it had over 300k miles. Car was easy to work on like you said. I sold it because it had bad cancer throughout the body. Living by the beach when I was single for 10 years destroyed it, and I did not want to spend any time fixing it. Sold it for $1000 in 1995, but it had a broken head gasket that needed to be repaired. The motor was still original. The old Rochester carb was so worn out that the butterfly shaft wiggled up and down. The original key was also worn out that I only needed it to start the car, then the key came out of the ignition and was no longer needed LOL.
Keep plugging away Mike you'll have the whole car rebuilt soon, I know how it feels to do all the work yourself when you stand back and look at it, it's always a good feeling. Oh and when I have to work on mine you know who I'll be talking to for pointers. I"ll be 56 in February and have always done my own work as well as painting unless I just didn't have time but that was very seldom and it was cheap fixes I could afford to pay for. Have a Merry Christmas and a roadworthy New Year!
I mentioned before about my rear spring being broken for at least 10 years. I had forgotten about it untill I did my half shaft u joints. Anyway, money is tight, and I found this one. This weekend Im going to install it.
Mike

Mike you are supposed to take a picture on the kitchen table. You are forgiven this time but don't let it happen again.
Good luck with the install. Make sure you have that puppy high enough.

Good afternoon mike, I was wondering when was the last time you changed your tranny fluid and filter? Also, do you do it yourself? I'm only asking because I was thinking of tackling that myself on my truck.
