Yes!!!!
You get to guess again!!!!!

I honestly have no idea why the PO put the hole there. There aren't any signs of anything ever being bolted or attached there, or anything under it to make me think it was some kind of jerry-rigged lock.

Either he must have felt a need to vent the gas, or it was an attachment for something. Maybe he was patriotic and had a flag there?

Default Radio Antenna

Probably for a 450 Mhz or higher frequency radio antenna. The hole is about the right size and the antenna will be 6 inches or less and the frame will act at the ground plane. The PO probably rode with out his top. That would have been a cheaper replacement part then say having the hood repaired with similar hole over the heater core, a spot more often used for radio antennas.

Your Subject line made me look!

I have a cover for this if you want one(just pay postage). I had these made for installing CB antennae without drilling thru anything. Edges need to be finish sanded/polished. Mounts between emblem and lid. If you still want a CB antennae you need to drill thru plate.

It is a really good looking piece and I appreciate the offer, but I'm not sure what I'm going to do about it yet.

Not really big enough for very much "glory".

So, pretty much the consensus is it was for some sort of antenna. So, I guess the question now is "what should I put there now?"

Please keep your suggestions mostly appropriate.

We are talking about a cat here, so that goes without saying.

My first guess would be the filler hole when Chevy was pushing mpg and 'a little goes a long way'. Next guess would be the cars anus, has to have one somewhere (which I suppose goes ___ in ___ with the glory hole statement)! Third guess was PO was trying to make it easier to get to the spot where you put your key in to open the trunk..

Ligitimate guess, PO was probably trying to jury rig a lock tumbler so he could lock the cap..

My first guess would be he drilled the hole for a antenna and then realized how the door opened.....too late
