Default Weird hole

What is this hole for?

I haven't seen pics of any vette with this? Is something supposed to be here or did the PO just feel like drilling holes in arbitrary places? Yeah I know, it needs washed.

CB antenna bolted there?
It cannot be a small sausage receptacle as there is no fur around it.

PO did not realize there was a place to put finger to open gas lid. Stupid Chevy, I will drill a finger hole where its handy to open this lid.

Makes it easier to siphon gas out?

Would be humorous to buy a plastic finger and have it sticking up out of there as you drive around!

It might be a Brazillian model? Isn't that where Calderone is from?

edit: He's from Chile, but that is close enough for me.
