It really is non stock and had to added afterwards .. most likely at great expense .... so be sure to expect to be able to charge $3K or $4K more than otherwise should you decide to ever sell the car.

Now that I see the picture again it really is quite obvious, it is just there to drain the water that collects inside the ring on the emblem.

It should be manditory that every stupid idea a PO had be recorded. The number of times I've mumbled "what was he thinking?" while trying to clean up my new purchase is off the charts. 24 years of stupid people tricks really add up!

Are you sure? I dont think it is big enough to drain water.

The car has been modified to burn water, not gas, and that allows it to fill up during each rain storm!

Stupid question, but my 87 slash 90 has an area inside the emblem that is recessed so you can grab the lid and open it, where's yours? Was it something only certain years had or is yours not an OEM part thus the hole to have something to grip?

It's there. Just an odd angle makes it difficult to see. The hole is extra, and apparently adds a considerable amount to resale value.

It would be a long and creative tubing run, but that could be a cool vent location for a nitrous purge...

Maybe owner thought there was a light in there and wanted to really know if it went out after the lid was shut.

Maybe a pull start cord like a chainsaw has

a small speaker hole to enhance the exhaust sound

maybe owner decided the lid would be lighter and easier to open with a hole

How could we all be missing this?!!!!!!!!!!!
He has the lid rigged as a speed brake that is integrated with his radar detector. It pops up when there is a radar signal detected. It was obviously slowing the Vette down too much. Thus the precisely drilled hole to reduce the drag!
You see, my 91 was previously owned by a Stealth fighter pilot and rigged the car with several high tech devices similar to this.

I guess that all of these suggestions are "plausible". It is just good to know that I am the only one with this particular "value added mod".
