never mind found a few shops, that can do it for me, I can wait to finally have the right cam in it....
Ah...if only life were that simple again...
Interesting specs on that cam. Looking forward to some dyno sheets, as I'm always curious about "power under the curve" results from this vs. that profile.
Okay, so the shop an I need to know if the steering rack had to come out? I think I know the answer, but maybe one of yous know a trick or 2. the damper puller won't fit, any other consideration after we pull the damper? do i have t lift the engine?
another thing is the distributor gear is wearing funny, any idea what is causing this? cam shaft end play?

You need to unscrew the PS line that goes into the top of the rack. There is a small loop in the line but it is not big enough to fit the end of the puller.
yeah they figured out how to pull the damper, thanks Kubs you are right
the cam is stuck half way, hitting the cross member, need to loosen the motor mounts.
some think the dist gear wear is the result of the 280 xfi cam gear being new and the worn 150k mile old distributor accelerating wear, some thinks it's the hardness of the comp cam gear, no consensus.
should I replace with steel?
the shaft in the dist housing is nice and snug no slop there.
the cam roller chain retaining bolt had too thick washers on them and brushed up against the timing cover,we discovered, glad I have it apart.

I decided to have Ron ( cusinartvette) do his magic on my Super ram, so I dropped it off today and he is making great time with it and it looks nasty! check it out!

No problem. when I did mine I only took the bolt out of one motor mount and jacked up the engine a bit. If I remember you only need a little bit more clearance.
excessive play between distributor gear and distributor body; any speed shop can sell you a shim kit.
Is your engine a factory roller? if so, the front of the cam is retained by a retainer plate which eliminated fore and aft movement of the cam.
bad oil pump with excessive internal drag, just plain overloading the gear?
That was a new HV mellings that went in 18,000k mikes ago, the oil pressure has been creeping down since new, how do you measure dist shaft play, it was a stock configuration from the factory with one shim
That kind of galling on the cam lobes I'd expect to see from a flat tappet cam.
Were the springs close to binding?
18k on the build, pistons, head, cam, one lobe is starting to look like the bad one, I think the BS started miles ago, luckily, we caught it, any more grinding and the crap would have had a field day on the bearings and bye bye engine.
the 8019 springs were an upgrade from AFR and can handle max lift .650, I was at .575.
Comp said valve floatation/tappet bounce can undermine the hard surface, I think it is a bad cam, out of warrantee, but they sold me one at cost,....
