1995 Cigarette Lighter blowing Fuse
I replaced my center console yesterday and obviously did not put cigar lighter back correctly. I thought I paid close attention and got all the washers and fiber one in correctly and it seems connector does not matter so I figure I put it back together wrong.
As soon as I plug in an accessory now it blows.
Before I go through hassle of removing console again, does anyone have a blown out diagram of the lighter and how it should go back together. I can't find anything in the factory service manual.
Thanks.

Sounds like you disassembled the lighter further than was necessary.
Here's a thread that has pictures of the assembly.

Based on that thread I think I too ended up with a lighter too far aprat in components and got the washers in the wrong order. I took the center nut out to separate. I know the fiber washer is the key and needs to be in the correct spot.
Based on this quote from that thread
"Thanks Hooked, that looks just like I put it together. After the element is slipped into the socket, there is a cone shaped washer, followed by an insulating washer, then the U shaped piece and the flat washer and nut. Thats the parts that came out of mine. I was worried about a short, but eventually figured out an order that would work.
Thanks Guys"
I think I can get it in the right order, I hope.
Based on above I will take it all apart and then this:
1) Insert element into socket
2) Cone shaped washer over shaft
3) Now Fibre (Insulating) Washer
4) U shaped Piece
5) Flat Washer
6) Nut
Hope for best, seem logical??

Now that I think about it the one in my 95 does not look like that 86. Mine is not threaded like that, the two halves just slip together ultimately held together by the nut. I will have to take console out and get some pics.
But I think if I get this the idea is that the fiber washer separates the two halves and when you insert a plug it pushs the the two tabs out which completes the circuit, correct?

Got it! All fixed. Where I was getting confused was that the copper threaded part had stayed in the housing and not come out with the lighter itself and these pics were just not making sense. But looking at pics of assembly and that thread explaining the circuit it happened. Should not have been a 2 hour process with a few blown fuses but that's how we learn I guess. New Console is in and all is well.
