Default Dash speakers question

Hello all,

Yeah a few months ago I had a major omaha retailer remove the stock radio cassette in my '89 and install a fancy new cd player with all the toys.
I also had new speakers Infinity speakers installed in the doors and the rear.

They said the dash speakers were a different story and said it as extra money etc... so I held back on those.
I still have the old, stock dash speakers installed, although they are not hooked up.

Im sure people here on the forum know the answer on this one...

-What do i have to do to replace the dash ones... does the dash come out ?

-Are the stock dash speakers 4" ones like the doors with the built in amps and all, maybe in a special enclosure.
So I would need a different enclosure to accept the new ones ?

I will probably be doing this soon, a good fall project.

Any info is appreciated.

Thanks

Vettes that came without a BOSE radio had speakers in the dash. Vettes with the BOSE system had speakers in the doors and rear only.
From what I've heard, if you got the power to run the dash speakers along with the others, do it

2 ways to get those speakers out. Take apart the dash, or cut some holes in it. Neither is a very fun thing to do.

If you find another reason to pull the dash apart (like installing a new gauge cluster) then do the speakers at the same time. I don't think it's worth pulling the dash just for the speakers.

However, running a 8 way system would sound great! 2 dash, 2 door, 2 rear and maybe a sub.

You would have a great sounding car stereo with the entire system hooked up. But, I don't think it's worth the time pulling the dash apart.

Taking the dash pad off is a 15 minute job. Not a big deal

Hey Thanks a million you guys for the excellent info and advice.

You know I always thought there were speakers in the dash, i have the dash cut outs and even a little impressioned circle where I thought speaker was.., hah
Shined a light down there and its empty.... funny

I do want to install the dash speakers, i have a new jvc system with infinitys and so 2 more up front is the way to go...

another question ... is it tough to feed the wires back to the stereo ?
I dont want the installers to feed me some line and charge me extra if its not.

Keep rockin all, and thanks again !!

Don't bother with the dash speakers, you can only fit a tiny, low depth unit in there.

84-89 is an ironing board. A few screws, give it a tug, and it's out....................
