Thanks, though proximity wouldn't help in this case. I don't have the time (patience, really) or energy to do this myself so am having a shop with C4 LS swap experience do it.
The shop isn't a forum vendor so I am not mentioning their name to avoid violating the commercial post rule. I checked with a Moderator and, to be on the safe side, am interpreting this more strictly than they requested.
I contacted many shops & chose this one because they responded to my initial inquiry in May with a detailed---item-by-item, parts and labor---estimate, had done a C4 LS swap before, and clearly want to do it.
There were several things that needed to be researched before proceeding. They took the lead in the planning, have been trying things out on their LS1 C4 & had an opportunity to help with another EROD installation in the interim. I have made a few small contributions borrowing heavily from ch@0s and c4orce2's threads, some LS swap books, and my google skills.
I got an email this morning saying the Vette has arrived safely.
Next things to get are a torque converter, TCU, and ... well ... I'll have to check my spreadsheet when I get to work tomorrow.
The biggest problem with the C4 is the CCM. 89 and earlier cars can adapt the Atari dash to LS conversions ok, just not the later ones...that and the ABS won't talk to the new ecm.
If it wasn't for this hurdle, I think you would have seen dozen of C4 conversions already.
Another factor, I suspect, is the Executive Order only applies to OBDI and earlier vehicles. Getting CA smog approval in OBDII C4's would likely be tougher without the EO.
Cost, of course, is the biggest problem. No one has done enough C4 swaps to offer it as a turn-key business. This is, for me, a once in a lifetime indulgance that makes no fiscal sense at all.
While trading PM's with PLRX a local dance studio owner dropped by to look at some of my late wife's Pilates equipment. He agreed to buy it next week so half the shipping cost of the Vette is covered.
The LS7 was recently added to the EROD family. The executive order is still pending, though. If money were no object, and I thought I could handle the horsepower...
There's an interesting thread on superchargers and road course driving in the Northern California section:
Ad the components for sale on craiglist, you got nothing to loose. I bet you sell them within a month.
Pete is right .. I sold all my stuff for almost 3k. I did have aftermarket heads and HSR intake but its a good way to make some of your money back. GL with it
Actually the shop has a craigslist add running. The market appears to have softened a bit, folks seem to prefer the LS engines. Ironic eh?
I sold most of my stuff individually on flebay. List your heads as ZZ4 if they are 113s. If they are 128s list them as aluminum corvette heads.
List your Intake runners plenum and PCM with the old TPI harness as a TPI swap.
Sell the short block separate. You will get more money this way. Otheywise you are limited to one local who will want it all vs all the people looking for individual parts.
