Default Dangling wire

I have a black wire hanging down behind my left rear tire on my 94 coupe. It is the only wire coming out of a corrugated conduit. The conduit holder has been pulled also. The antennae works and so do the rear running lights. It appears to be a ground wire but I don't know. Too cold now to pull off the wheel. Anyone know anything about this ? Thanks

I think there may be a light set up above the spare tire or somewhere close..... mine didnt have one, but I remember reading a similar issue.

GM uses black wire color for grounds. And, as popo8 says, on some years, there is a light under the car in front of the spare carrier. You could use the old doofus trick of swinging the wire in a circle, the home for that wire should be in the circle. (Disclaimer- My doofus permit has expired.)

It could be an antenna ground plane wire. Attached to the antenna motor are 4 black, 16-18 gauge wires that go in 4 different directions inside the wheel well/rear bumper and don't attach to anything. These wires just give the antenna a reference and help with reception.

Who knows - but I'd make sure it isn't the tank ground which is there to prevent static electricity from blowing you up when you fill it up.

i have a similar wire on my 96, but it's behind the LH taillights/backup light assembly. i noticed it when i pulled the lens assemblies for cleaning. i always thought it had something to do with the PKE/remote circuitry for the rear hatch. as i recall, it looked to be an 18 gauge wire.
