it seems like you might have a loose connection. Hopefully that's the only problem though, sometimes with higher mileage vettes the instrument cluster will just burn itself out. I'd check the fuses and make sure there aren't any loose connections behind the dash before looking into replacing or repairing the cluster. Because there are so many moving numbers and cool flashing lights, the speed and tach run on a different circuit. thats why you can get the other lights to work but not the really important ones.

here's a link that might help.

Good Luck!

Dash back lighting is a totally different circuit than LCDs and the inputs to them. Go to batee.com for a lot more info and search here more. I had a bad connector between the PC boards causing my troubles.

It could be something as simple as burned out backlighting bulbs. Check it out....

Same with my '88 dash. Did some work on the connector but now it occasionally "winks out" till I rap on the front of the display bezel...

The info on batee.com was very useful; pay attention to the cautions regarding the display glass plates.

Follow that link from CorvetteSonntag. Take off the bezel as shown in the first pic. After that's off, you should be able to see light coming out around the 4 round silver light shield/reflectors when the ignition is on. That will tell you if your backlighting is working or if one or more lamps are out. You can see light leaking out around these guys in the third picture from the bottom of the series.
