The 1985 Vette. Remember. It was only the WORLDS fastest production car built in 1985. The first Vette with true fuel injection after 20 years. Top speed of 150 mph. Unheard of in 1985! It beat Lamborghini Countach, Porsche 944, Ferrari 308GTS1, Lotus Espirit Turbo, and Porsche 928S in every class that year. Hardly things to be ashamed of. It was the most technically advanced car Chevrolet EVER built until then. Sure the newer C4's got faster and more advanced, but that's how it's supposed to be. Right? I bought my 85 years ago because of all the things I mentioned. I'm happy with it and glad to own it.

May want to check your facts, the 928 S4 U-boat had a top speed of 155 mph on US models compared to a top speed of 150 mph for the Vette. Having driven both I assure you they are not comparable. The Countach had a top speed of 185 mph and the Ferrari 308GTS1 had a top speed of 159 mph. When was the last time you had a chance to buy a 1985 Countach, 308 GTS1 or 928 S4 for $4,995?

Just sayin...............
I made a mistake and said "worlds" fastest production car in my reply. I meant to say fastest "American built production car". Pretty sure most Corvette enthusiasts here would have figured that out without you trying to discredit me. There were plenty of faster import sportscars back then. The 85 Corvette did beat all those competitors in accelleration, braking, slolom, lateral accelleration, and price. It's all in print from USAC certified tests and General Motors. The 85 Vette is a great car. That's why I picked it specifically over other C4's even though I could easily have had a newer one. Strange, you actually did this 1985 comparison on your own. Maybe you should let them know how wrong they were in their comparisons.

Wow, got up on the wrong side of the bed did we? I just responded to what YOU posted, in fact you capitalized the word WORLD. If You meant fastest American production car, why did you throw the comparison out with the others? Just a forum guy, no intent to discredit you, just didn't agree with what YOU said so just relax.
Again, I ask you. If the 1985 Vette was such a visionary car that beat all those others in every aspect, why can't I buy a Lambo Countach for $4,995 like I can a 1985 Vette?

Well if someone really wants to pay tens of thousands of dollars more for a 27 year old import sportscar that can be out performed by a poor old 230 hp 27 year old Corvette, so be it. Is it worth that much more just to say you own a Porsche, Ferrari or Lambo? Nothing wrong with those cars. I like them all. The 85 C4 proven performance facts back then still stand as they did 27 years ago. By todays standards the 85 C4 won't have a chance. No question there. If you want to spend 5 to 10 thousand dollars to get something I think is a special year C4 because of the other things I stated, and one that outperformed a few way more expensive sportscars when they were new, go for the 85 C4. If owning exotic status symbol cars that I agree can go much faster than an 85 C4 mean more to you, feel free to spend away and make yourself happy. Buying a piece of Corvette history meant a little more to me than just owning a faster car.

I think the point Jon is trying to make is the 85 is no better that any other C4 corvette. He could have bought any pre 90 C4 and pretty much have the same performance. In other words why the "85". I could understand someone dreaming of a C4 but an 85 in particular ?
1985 corvettes awsome big V8 power and stump pulling torque. My friends 85 is by far the fastest car ive ever drove
Drive an 87 and you will change your mind. Then drive a 90 and you will change your mind. Then drive a 92 and you will change your mind. Then drive a 96 LT4 and you will change your mind again. Get the picture?

I read his post and I did not think thats what he meant. To say one C4 is better than another C4, I myself would say every year the corvette gets better and better all the way to the present year but that is just my opinon. If someone loves a 85 and thinks its the best then good for him. We all love all corvettes. Don't we ?
