You could replace the Temp.Sensor with one that tricks the computer and makes the cooling fan come on earlier, when on the highway the car will run around 185 to 190 in traffic between 190 to 200. I purchase mine from Ecklers about 4 years ago
Ecklers does not show anything when I search for "sensor that tricks the computer" so wondering which part number this is? Having some issues with my 87. Thanks
I have an 85 that I found was running hot in traffic, replaced the thermostat but also had to re-chip with one that turned on the fans at a lower temp. If you only replace with a lower thermostat will do nothing.
Temps are normal. Fan comes on about the same as mine. Temps really rely on airflow. I've had mine checked, flushed etc. By a reliable vette owner mechanic, a chevy dealer that specializes in vettes and a vette specialist. Got the same answer from all. I really don't trust the guages. I think there about 10 degrees too high.
Gentlemen, on my 90 coupe the fans come on at 228 degrees and all the wise Vette guys tell me this is normal. Well, for nine years I drove my Vette with one eye on the temp gauge and was hoping the fans come on as they were programmed to do. I got tired of this crap and installed a computer chip adapter that turns on the fans at 200 and off at 185. I also put in a 160 thermostat so the water was circulating till the fans shut off. What a relief to drive my car without worrying about overheating in traffic in the summertime with the AC on. I bought it from TPI parts in Florida. Yeah, I know some guys will say that the cars were designed that way and it is normal but I feel much better this way and I am pleased to have the car run with the temps at 200 to 185. O.K that's my 2 cents worth.
I'm having a ploblem with the fan not coming on and the over flow is boiling .changed the thermostate toa 195 tried a fan relay and know checking the temp regulater on the block has not started until about 1 week aog.
Is it an 84? If so unplug the fan switch & ground it. Its in the pass. side head between the rear spark plugs. With the key on & the switch wiring grounded, the fan should run. Does the relay click?
Use a test light to test for power & ground at the fan.
