Now since we got that question out of the way, anyone have any advice for when the time comes for, year, mileage, anything to look for? I'm relatively new to this, so any help would be appreciated.
Pick up a copy of the Nov 2012 VETTE Magazine. They have a well written C4 buyer's guide.

You can learn a lot just by going through all the old pages here. (Remember they have a "45 day rule" - if it's been more than that long since the last post, you're not supposed to bring it back to life). Do a search on various things you're interested in and it's amazing what will pop up.

Be prepared to have issues no matter what year you get. They're old cars and things break and wear out. The more work you can do yourself, the better.

One other thing and it can be a biggie. Assuming you DO know how to turn a wrench - even a little - once you actually buy a Vette go buy the FSM - "Factory Service Manual". They are year-specific and will tell you how to do ANY repair you can think of, step-by-step. They're big - two volumes about the size of phone books - and not cheap (new over $100, used available on flea-bay etc) but they will save you time, aggravation and headaches and will pay for itself in a very short time by NOT having to take the car to a garage or dealer.

Don't rush out and get the first one you see - do homework, make friends who know the cars and have them help you look. This forum is probably your best resource of all. But hang in there, you'll get one.

And when you do, don't forget to wave to other Vettes!

Check the For sale section of the forum. These are cars that members have for sale and should give you a good idea of the price range.

The targa top is removable on C4s. You can also get a clear replacement top.

Check with Corvette clubs in your area. Their members could give you a lot of advice.
