Default wheel interchangeability question

Newbie here. Just picked up an 86 coupe in need of a fair amount of TLC. Always wanted a Vette and finally got one to play with
Anyway it needs new tire and was wondering if C5 rims/tires would work. There's a guy selling a nice set of aftermarket rims with new tires for a C5- 18 X 10.5 Rear and 17 x 10.5 rear that I'd like to pick up if the price is right but want to make sure it would work correctly first.
Also anyone know a good site for interchange reference for these cars? Thanks

You really need to understand wheel offsets and wheel back-spacing to venture into the "wheel/tire" market. There's a multitude of good/bad information around that can get you in trouble easily. What is presently on the car for tire size and if you can ID the wheels that might be good for a start!

Here's a link to C4 OE wheels for a start:

Regarding the wheels that are close. Get the tire sizes and as much information from the back-side of the wheel as you can and post that information. If someone knows exactly what your trying to make work you'll get better advise!

Learn how to measure "back-spacing".

If it needs TLC maybe the "pretty wheels" need to wait!

I highly recommend looking at Tire Rack and Mid America motor sports.

Some ebay sellers also have wheel and tire applications to see if stuff will fit your car or not.

The 86, has a pretty different spindle than the 89 and ups. Pretty sure Mid America carries replica wheels for the 86 though

C5 rims should work fine with 3/4" adapters (or spacers with long wheel studs).

These are the adapters you need, to fit the 88-96 wheels on your 86 or 84-87. The 88-96 guys can just bolt on the C5 and C6 wheels, without any mods so the adapters are what you need. I have them on my 85, although they do make some after market wheels as a direct fit.
But that would be in the fine print.

And below direct fit (C6 COPY no adapter required) wheels.

So fit the adapters and you can fit factory 88-96 wheels or the C5 and C6 factory wheels.
