I autocrossed my bone stock 92 yesterday and it was a blast, but I drove the car pretty damn hard. I noticed afterwards that there seems to be a slight bump that seems to occur with every rotation of the wheels.
At slow speeds, under 30, it's pretty noticeable. At normal speeds it's hardly noticeable, but above 85 the car seems to vibrate more than usual.
I think I could have messed up something with my brakes, or maybe a wheel bearing, but I'm obviously not sure. It's not a major problem, it's just a little annoying considering it is my only car/daily driver. Does anyone know what this could be?
Car: stock 1992 coupe, 6-speed, suspension components are all original and I believe the brake rotors are as well. Help please, thanks!
I hate to say we told you so....But we did!!!!!.remember????........... .......
Its either flat spots on your tires, or one or more ujoints need to be replaced..Either way, big $$$$$...WW
Playing will cost you money, my saying is race it, break it, fix it and repeat.
Kim, if you remember , his last post before his autocrossing event he said he had no money because he was a college student, plus this was his daily driver.....Whoops........
Tom , If you have to pay someone to do the job it's big $$$$..If you read his post above he doesn't even own a jack.......WW
I think I can get my hands on a jack, they're around. I'm going to jack it up today and look for flat spots on the tires. Is there any chance I could have a warped rotor? After a few hard runs with a novice driver slamming the brakes maybe that could happen?
Your right , it could be a rotor, C4s warp rotors pretty easily..... Once you get it off the ground you can check for a warped rotor by spining the wheel and listening for the sound of the rotor touching the brakes...This should be easy to tell.... With the ujoints you have to do the same thing , spin the wheel and listen to the ujoints to see if one is making a noise..You may have to get the axle straight to get it to make a noise...It may not do it while hanging down with pressure off the suspension.. You also may be able to feel the flat spot on the tire with your hand, if thats the problem....Good luck....WW

Have you changed your tires? (Original?). How many miles on your cr?
I've heard of ltpws (tire sensors) coming lose and making a lot of noise

Thanks. Yeah I'm going to jack it up today and hopefully find out what's going on. Something tells me it's a warped rotor because when I brake, even softly, it feel like the brakes are varying in pressure even though my foot is staying put. It is definitely with each rotation of the tires.

Have you done anything recently to your car?

117k miles. I've had ASR and ABS lights on for a few months now, maybe there has been a slight persisting problem and autocross made it a bigger problem. Hopefully I'll find out today.
Tires aren't very old. The fronts are almost new and the rears probably have 25k on them. Gotta switch them this week.

Haven't done a thing to it!
Any more advice or ideas is appreciated!
If the brake pedel pulsates up and down as your moving holding the brake down, it's a pretty good chance it's a warped rotor...You may have lucked out and the repair will only cost about $35.00 for a rotor at Advanced Auto or some other parts store......If your going to continue autocrossing you may want to look into slotted rotors, they dissipate the heat faster.. The guys that are into autocrossing regularly usually go to a larger brake system ( bigger slotted rotors , larger Hawk pads)......WW

ASR/ABS light? No fluid change? Didn't inspect the brakes in advance? Rear tires already with significant mileage...
First notion: If budget is non-existent, don't race your daily driver. Period.
Do you have an adrenaline junkie personality? Would not have placed the car on ANY road let alone an AutoX track until the car is deemed reliable and mechanically sound.
Sounds like the car was not prepped or race-ready. Let alone be road worthy.
Am not trying to be hard on you... its not that entertaining to me to be pushing around a Corvette to be in that mechanical sub-par condition.

Hmmm...Not really answering the question there...
OP, when you get the jack to do your inspection of the wheel bearing/u-joints, etc., maybe consider (if you haven't already) jackstands, throw a rim under it...whatever. Something.
