My 85 has the V08 option. From what I've read, that includes a heavy duty radiator, extra fan and engine oil cooler. I don't see two fans, though. I see one rather large fan at the radiator. I'm still learning a lot, so maybe I'm just not looking where I should. Or, maybe I have the wrong information about what V08 includes. I got the RPO listings from both the dealer sheet and from the RPO sticker on the storage lid behind the driver seat. Both show V08. (The VIN on that sticker matches the car's VIN, so no issue there.) Thanks.
VO8 is Heavy Duty Cooling. I only see only one fan on my 86 as well.
I know that the option is called Heavy Duty Cooling, but I guess I'm uncertain about what that includes now. I had read here on an old thread that it includes a 2nd fan. Does your 86 note the V08 option? What do you see that the option includes?
I did the exact same thing last year when I bought my 85, starting looking all over for the other fan. I even called the PO thinking he had it removed. He corrected me.

Oh, good. I don't feel so bad anymore!
BTW, I like the wheels on yours. Are they 17"? What do you have to do to go to 17", or do they fit without much issue?
My 1986 PO options show : B4P Radiator Boost Fan $75.00
VO1 Heavy duty radiator $$40.00
KC4 Engine Oil Cooler $110.00
These are off my original window sticker
Laurieb,
Yes, they are replica ZR 1 wheels. I bought them from another forum member that had them on their 85. They are 17x9.5 front and 17x11 rear. They are from AFS Wheels, and are the correct offset for our cars. 38 mm. The fronts have 275x40 Nitto 555's, and the rear are 315x35 Nittos as well. These are painted silver, not polished, or chrome. easier to maintain. You can use ones with a later model offset, but you will need adapters. There is a lot of information on this forum about what you would need to do if you got 56mm wheels. I for one am not a fan of having to use adapters, so I waited to find a correct set. AFS is still around, you find them on here, I think they are a sponser, or there is also OE Wheels. There is a lot to choose from. If you are not sure, post a question, here, there are some very knowledagble people on here.
Peyc2, thank you so much for all that good information. I go back and forth about whether or not I want to keep stock or change wheels at some point. Having good information available will make it a lot easier if I decide to go with a change.
Yes, I debated that myself for a while. But, an opportunity in the parts for sale section came about. The tires had 5,000 mile on them, and the wheels had no damage. I kept the orginal, stacked in the garage. But, they made a big difference in how the car drove. It had a 17 year old set of 16 inch Goodyears. They were rock hard, and flat spotted. In fact, they are probably not safe anymore. I will keep them in case I ever try to show the car, as an orginal car.
I wouldn't worry about it if you don't have it. Outlined by a GM Bulletin, the Aux Fan was added when auto-crossers and high altitude users had overheating complaints. At first, it was a Dealer installed option, but more Vettes were produced with the Heavy Duty Radiator sans the Aux Fan in subsequent years (and since the entire production was pre-sold to Dealers each Year, someone felt it wasn't a big item to order - even if it did mean more profit). Running both tends to overtax an all ready overtaxed alternator which then slows everything down and once that happens, it will overheat. Even still, the Vette aftermarket climbed on the "it runs too hot bandwagon" and pushed "Low Temp Fan Switches" and "Aux Fan" kits hyping that there was something inherently wrong with a design that wasn't wrong at all. Assuming your cooling system is the way it rolled off the Assembly Line, you can test it by turning off the a/c and blocking air flow while monitoring your temp gage or using a scanner. The lack of air flow should get it cranking a couple of degrees or so above the Main Fan. Note, if you try running both with the a/c on at marginal ambients (anything below about 70 degrees) it will cool the charge to the point that the Low won't be high enough to keep the compressor running and your Vent temps will be less which isn't very satisfying if it's sat in the sun and cooked the interior to a 100 degrees.
