Speeding tickets

As the the autobahn, I've been lucky to drive on it a few times. German drivers are required to take way more education that we do here. In fact, my German buddy came over here and got his US driver's license in FL in about 5 minutes (Pre 9/11).
He said it was a joke and they have must higher standards in Germany. Over there you're not allowed to pass on the right so it's courtesy there for slower cars to get over. The high speeds there is all based around that.
The high speed areas are really just in rural potions of the Autobahn. I rent BMW's or Mercedes and they cruise nicely at 130MPH with no drama at all. What winds up happening is slower vans and cars don't see you until you've had to slow down to just say 90mph before they get over. Likewise I had a few Porsche's come up on me at over 160 and I didn't see them until they were on my tail. The fast cars usually put on their left blinker to get your attention. Anyway, once you experience extended legal high speed cruising, 70 MPH really feels slow.
Be thankful a ticket is all you got. Depending on your attitude, I probably would have arrested you. That's considered reckless driving in this neck of the woods and most of the time, you're arrested. I've seen VERY few officers cite when you're 20mph over the speed limit. Your actions dictate the officers actions. By your own admission, you were speeding. You don't want any interactions with the police, save the speed for the track. Don't blame the officer being a "dick" when you were driving like one. I wish you could see some of the wrecks I've seen from excessive speed and what happens to a body that's involved in a high speed collision. It's not pretty and I can't erase the images from my mind. I'm not going to be a hypocrite here and say I haven't done some high speed driving on public roads, but as I've aged, I'd like to think I've got some wisdom. Have fun with your car, but not at the point that it endangers others. I don't think that's difficult. Stay safe out there.

I sometimes think I used up so much of my good luck back then I'd better not tempt it too much now. Acceleration is fine, an on ramp is a terrible thing to waste.
But some of the stuff discussed here is just crazy. I only hope you don't take innocent people with you when you go.One other comment. We often used to have the local cops arrest guys operating snowmobiles and ATV's down the right of way along the railroad tracks or even ON the tracks. A common gripe was "Where else am I supposed to ride it?" (This was in a suburban area.) The answer was "Not our problem, where did you THINK you were going to ride it when you bought it?"
Yeah, it may be a shame to have 600 HP and a car that can go 160 and the speed limit is less than half of that. But you knew the limits before you bought the car. It's not up to the public to provide you a place to let it all out.
Yes I cruise a little above the limit. Yes I took the Vette into 3 digits - ONCE, on an Interstate in Wyoming, where I could see 5 miles ahead and 5 miles behind and there were no other cars either direction. I'm not a goody-goody. But you could not pay me ANY amount of cash to do some of the stuff I did in my '67 Vette back when I was 20. I'm damn lucky to be here today. I hope some of you kids will have the good luck to live to be old too.
I have no problem with the lower .4 alcohol limit for a professional driver if he's in his truck. Any professional driver in a truck with any alcohol that can register should be taken out hanged on the nearest tree limb.
