Had to put my vette in the shop yesterday for som minor fixit job and I asked the mechanic about lowering the 'rear' by an inch, he told me not to go beyond
a 1/2"....
(Question)
How much have you lowered yours in the rear and what problems (if any) should I expect by going 1"... I have to call him this afternoon and give him my conclusion..
i hear you don't want to lower the rear more than 1/2" compared to the ride height of the front because the vettes require a higher rear end to create that rake angle. the rake angle helps to keep the rear of the car more stable than if it were lower when you are racing it at speeds above 100mph or something. it was posted a week or so ago maybe someone can elaborate on or correct me on what i've posted?
Unless you are gonna do high speed driving lower as much as you want. Keep in mind that there is rake (front lower than the rear) built into your car for high speed stability. If I were you I would lower the rear until it was just a bit higher than dead level with the front, and then be careful at high speeds for a while. If you don't like the high sped handling just raise it up again, lowering and raising the rear of these cars is a breeze. Good Luck.
Thanks guys!! I had him use his own judgement and it is the same as you've suggested.. went down about 1/2" but my car had 4 different measurments FR/FL/ were different as well as LR/RR... Somehow he balanced them out and adjusted camber.. Still has a slight rake but the car does sit noticeably lower, not as much space between top of the tire and the real well..

Re: Lowering question... (Mystic '95)
I have a lowering kit. I just have not put it on yet. How easy is it? If you lower the front the same as the rear, do you still have a problem with high speeds?

I put the lowering kit on mine  (see pic in sig) The front was difficult. I wouldn't do it without putting it on a lift but I suppose you could do it on jackstands. I don't do high speed driving(100+), But with mine I got the front down just shy of 1" and the back just shy of 2". Normal ride height had the back up about an inch higher than the front, That was with a full tank of gas. I set it up so it is level with a full tank of gas, By the time I reach 1/2 tank there is a noticable difference.
Lowered the rear of mine with the kit. Went with the straight line from front to back (no rake). I was always hitting the front end before lowering. Now I clear most dips/bumps without a scrape.
