Excessive Speeding
I heard you can request the presence of a marked police cruiser AND uniformed officer before you provide any information to an officer in an unmarked car. Can't refuse to stop or try to get away but are allowed to keep your doors lock, stay in the car and request a cruiser before you provide your information or get out of the car.
There were some issues a few years ago in the Detroit area where people would impersonate police officers in unmarked cars and carjack, rob or even murder the people they pull over. Anyone know the deal on this?
Not trying to be a pain to the officers, just a personal safety issue to some extent. I think there are some parts of town around here where I would just slowly keep driving to the local police station with cherries in tow rather than risk it.
Just curious if anyone knows...
On the subject of speeding, I once was driving a rented Jaguar XJ8 from Tampa to South Florida. Running very late for a meeting with a realtor because the hotel failed to give us a wake up call. Doing triple digits for some time, including a few runs at 120 mph when an FHP plane sees us really book. Luckily, I didn't get timed until he caught up to me because I had slowed down and he clocked me going around 92 on a 70, but the ticket was for 89 mph. So not a bad ticket but could have been much worse. V1 would not have saved me there.
