I was wondering if anyone has been stopped or ticketed for going excessively fast, at least over 100. I heard if you double the speed limit you are subject to higher penalties, and even heard of possibly doing prison time for reckless endangerment. So I was looking for some stories and information on this subject. I have hit over 140 mph on rare occasions and always wondered what would happen if I just happened to run into one of those terrible speed traps.
92nph is the magic number here. They can make you serve jail time. think it was 1 day in jail for every 3 miles per hour over 92 or something like that. And also pay a fine.
135 in a 45 quailify? I had a brand new Black Mustang GT and wanted to see how fast it would go so I took it up to speed for 3 miles on Rt18 in New Brunswick at 1 AM. Roads were empty. It would have been faster but they I had pulled away enough that they couldn't track me anymore. To bad I didn't know they were behind me. They caught me because I stopped at a red light. I go beat up at gunpoint for resisting arrest. Trumped up. I was actually pulled out of the car hands up with shotguns and after cuffing me and throwing me face first to the ground a fat cop stood on me, broke by glasses on my face by pushing my head into the ground and then spit in my face calling me a POS. I had said nothing and was in pajamas and no shoes. Just getting a gyro on a study break during finals in college. Then they took my car and put 100 miles on it joyriding while I sat in Jail for 4 hours. When they found out I hadn't stolen the car, wasn't drunk or high, and had a clean record it went from POS to Mr. B. They tacked on reckless, evading pursuit, and resisting arrest, the last two so they would have something to bargain with in court. I was young so in court instead of getting a fat settlement I ended up getting the charges lowered to careless and a 4 point speeding ticket by my court appointed attorney. But I did end up loosing my license and my car. Thanks New Brunswick PD! On a side note, this was just some bad apples. I know a couple of guys in the Middlesex County Sheriff's dept and they are good guys. I guess I just got lucky. :cuss :mad
In 1975, I got a ticket and a weekend in jail for doing 139 in California. The fine for the ticket was $675 . The jail time was a cooling period while waiting for my bail hearing. I think that the contributing factor to the jail time was the fact that we were flipping the bird to the CHP as we blew by them. We outran everything but a CHP helicopter.
 :yesnod:
I had my other car up to 130 in a 45. No ticket  . Funny at 130 in a 45 and nothing happens, then going 55-60 and you have a tire blowout, lose traction and go sideways into a telephone pole... Anyway, that's what happened on my other car. Terrible experience. :smash:
In California there is a seperate Vehicle Code for speed in excess of 100mph. This gets you a fatter fine and a possible license suspension. 22348 CVC:
"...on first conviction a fine not exceeding $500.00 and the court may also suspend the privilege to operate a motor vehicle for a period not to exceed 30 days..."
Haven't been caught yet (knock on wood), but was in a Road Rage class one time put on by the State Patrol, and asked the officer...hypotheticly of course...what would happen if they pulled me over for 160 in a 70 zone. He said it would be Wreckless Indangerment and that they would take me to jail unless the jails were full. He never gave me any idea about the monitary penalty and the lump in my throat kept me from asking any more. Especially after one of the other guys in the class just had to pipe in about my yellow Corvette convertable! :smash:
By the way, the Washington State Patrol has a program targeting agressive drivers and they use very stealth rigs which they rotate through the state. They had a late model white Volvo, a Ford Expedition, and several other totally unmarked cars. No antannas, no visible emergency lights, not even WSP lisence plates. In fact, the officer said they would even tear the left sleave off of an old work coat or something and pull it over their left arm while they drive with the window down and their arm resting on the door so that from outside the car they looked like an average working guy.
I think they've lost the concept of playing fair! :boxing
I nailed the brakes and got caught doing 83 in a 45. I could have gotten a ticket for racing as well, but I was so far ahead, he didn't see WHAT I was racing. I took defense driving to get out of it. That was several years ago though. Now if you are doing 25+ over you can't get out of it. At least not without hiring a lawyer and such.
210 in a 50 count? and remeber we are talking Kph (62mph=100kph) so 130 ish in a 30, never found out the kid i was racing stopped for the cops and i did not, gotta love non pursuit policies :) when i drove back by 10 min later the kid was int he bag of the cruiser and the mustang was being towed, turned out to be dad's car getting towed away.
Lost my license the 1st time in '69. Racing in my '68 Sport Fury against a '69 Roadrunner. Clocked in excess of 120 in a 55. Don't really know how fast I was going. Telephone poles were going by like a picket fence! Road block got me for attempting to elude, street racing, reckless driving and speeding. We won't go into some of the other charges. Remember before you start slamming me that was 33 years ago!
In the PRC over 100 is a ticket. The kid is a CHP officer and he stopped a guy going 105mph with his 6 year old in the car? He wrote him for the speed, the guy got a break. Could have been child endangerment.
The ticket for 106 mph costs $1,302.00 The average speed on 152-99 is over 100 mph. The posted limit is 70 mph. SUV's with the family run 100 plus. The posted limit is just an estimate?
Its not worth it!
Don't ever run from the police. It could cost you your life, or someone elses.
