Default will they work?

I have an 1987 c4 looking to buy some 18" stock wheels from a 2000 c5 1st question is will they fit and if so what is the best size of tires to mount on them?

I believe you will need spacers.

If this is a set of 4 from a single car it's likely that the wheels are "staggered" 17" fronts and 18" rears. It's important to find out exactly what you're looking at before soliciting information. The spacer requirement would likely be different dependent upon what you're anticipating buying. The wheel dimensions will be cast into the wheel back-side and then it would be possible to make maybe a suggestion.

If the wheels were from a single car and 17/18 stagger it's generally assumed that a 1" spacer for the front and 1.25" for the rear but 1" would do.

Sizes - let's see what you're actually looking at.

the c5 wheels are a direct bolt on for the 88-96 c4's. the spacers for the early to late c4 would be best.

It depends on which wheel(s).
Yours had either 16"x 8.5"- 32mm or 16"x 9.5"- 38mm

The 2000 C5 base wheel you suggested is 18"x 9.5"- 65mm

So you will need spacers to run a full set of C5 base 18" wheels.

There is an interesting option for 18's though. It looks like the C6 Z06 has a 18"x 9.5"- 40mm front wheel. It looks like a full set of those front wheels should fit without spacers.

Good luck.

That has nothing to do with the question asked as to "what fits"

Sorry perhaps I could have stated it better that it depends on which wheels he wants to use and what size adapter he may need. Either of the stock '87 wheels will need an adapter with the 18" base C5 wheels.

I posted the offsets for the stock '87 wheels because he may want to see the difference between his stock wheels and the proposed wheels. It will show him the amount of offset difference.

The 9.5" on any year ZR-1 is a 56mm - doesn't matter the style - "ALL"! If they're 9.5 and 38mm then they're early wheels for '87 or earlier. They should be cast 38mm if they are. If they're not cast then the back-spacing is very close to 6.7", a straight edge and a tape measure should answer any questions. A 56mm 9.5" wheel the back-spacing" is closer to 7.4".
