Thoughts on Headliner Adhesive
I have done several headliners over the years and used several kind of spray adhesive glues. Getting ready to do another one and was going to get a 2 cans of the 3M headliner glue.
There are a couple of other ones out there that are less expensive like Permatex and Home depots Super 90. Not much for reviews on any of them and just don’t know if I should go with the known best and not mess around trying to save a buck or two.
Just seeing what feedback I may get on this.

Maybe not the best test, but I used the Permatex spray adhesive on my Buick.
It was only detaching around the edges at the front and back windows. It was only loose for a couple of inches in from the windows and several inches wide.
I sprayed the Permatex and pushed the headliner into the glue. It was sticky enough but loose enough that I could position the headliner fabric and smooth it out to get it in place. When it dried, it was firmly in place.
It held for the couple of years that I had the car.

The 3M super spray adhesives work best, the cheaper products and 3Ms regular strength don't hold up (I made a pun!) on headliners. Or you could use regular brush on contact cement.

I have used the 3M stuff - both black and yellow. Comes in a tube. Great luck with both. Cannot remember using anything else.
Little more pricey maybe, I dunno - but with known results -

Depends on what you're sticking up there. Insulation will fall down in summer heat. If only using fabric or leather 3m may work, but if u glue leather to insulation it'll fall off in serious summer heat. For my third try Im using contact cement to hold insulation to roof. 77 works to hold leather to insulation just not insulation to roof

Here you go, Spermatex headliner and carpet adhesive from autozone, $12 and sticky as hell. This video will show you how i did it. Have fun- Ozz http://youtu.be/RjFHHly6yWQ

I'm shocked that the guy doing that video didn't install new headliner. All he did was scrape the old foam (that used to be on the back of the material) off the backer-board and glue

I ended up going with the 3M headliner after all. Used it before and know it works good.

I've always used 3M #80 'cause it's so stinking hot here in the summer. Never had one come back down. I've done three including a station wagon (two cans). 77 has let me down in this heat. I'm pretty sure they cost the same.
When I did the Corvette I cleaned off all the old material and foam and just used black felt fabric. Not the pool table type but the thicker type and used 3M80 and that was two years ago. I think I spend a total of $13 and the headliner looks great and very close to the original mouse hair padded stuff.
