Default Passive Keyless Entry Light?

Last night, the passive keyless entry light came on for the first time in the 2+ years I have owned the car and now refuses to go off - car running, not running, etc...

Should state that I never received the keyless fobs when I bought the car, so have never used those to engage the security system. Truth be told, I rarely lock it at all.

Any ideas as to what to check first? Thx in advance.

Normal operation is the PKE light comes on for a 2 second test and then goes out when the key is first turned to on. If the light is on and does not go out, that is a major fault. It is controlled by the PKE receiver solely and nothing else really has any input to it for the self test.

Most likely if you have no control over the light, the PKE receiver is defective. To remove the receiver dash pad has to be removed which is a pretty big job. You can either remove the fuse for the PKE or remove the bulb for the light.

It’s best to always state what year your car is because differences vary a lot. PKE is 93 – 96. However the ALDL connectors and pins are different for the self test error codes.

Pcolt 94 - Thanks for the additional info.

Tried to pull the fuse, but is also associated with the radio. Going to look at the bulb removal.

Car is a 94 BTW.

Thanks for the add'l info. I originally pulled fuse #40, which killed the radio. Will try the other two this weekend.
