Default New Guy with problems

First off, I am new to this forum. Have been reading a lot and there is some great info here. As good as the forum on Edmunds when I bought my 2000 Dakota Quad Cab. But anyway. Two months ago I bought my first Vette (but not last one). 1990 Torch Red Coupe, AT, $6000. 2 rear tires, 4 rotors, and 4 shocks and here I am. My Problems:

1. Oil gauge flucuates (sp)when I come to a stop, otherwise it is baried at 80lbs. I have put in a new oil sending unit but no change. What next?

2. The drivers door glass leaks like a water fall where the top meets the door glass and windshield. Have adjusted the door and glass. What next?

3. When driving slow and step on brakes quick and hard the brakes don't seem to apply. The car doesn't stop quickly like other vehicles.

Hey Dakotaqc! Was this an abandoned vehicle that you bought? On a more serious note, do you mean the oil pressure fluctuates ("bounces" across the scale) at a low rpm, or do you mean that it just drops from a normal operating pressure while driving to a lower pressure at idle? If the meter "bounces" at idle, I'm afraid you are going to require a diagnotic code reader to locate the electrical/mechanical problem. I know that is not what you want to hear, but your vette is a pretty sophisticated machine, and it needs professional help. Again, your door/window fit is going to require a body shop to align the components. Your brakes may be your easiest fix. Replacing rotors and pads is quite simple, if you have the proper instructions.
Any reputable brake shop will give you a free brake inspection before you bring out the tools.

$6K
So are we going to see a picture of you on the post office wall :jester :jester

If the Oil pressure just goes down from a high value to a low value thats OK
If it goes to a low value but fluctuates several pounds as you sit at idle it is probably a different problem (Pickup, pump, filter, clogged passages, etc)

#2 - Welcome to the joys of a C4. You might want to take it to a glass shop. My passenger side leaked like a seive at the top until I had the glass replaced. Now it only leaks if it rains real hard.

#3 - assume you replaced the pads and rotors at the same time. Hope you replaced all the brake fluid at the same time. If you didn't do anything to the brakes yet then try the following:
Get a new set of pads, replace the pads and flush the fluid. Bleed the brakes and drive it several hundred miles. Now pull the rotors and if possible have them resurfaced. If one rotor can't be surfaced at the front change both front rotors (same for the rear). Re-use the pads you replaced in step one, and bleed the system again.
If you still have a broblem there may be air in the ABS system.

Good Luck and Welcome to the Addiction

Welcome to the forum. Nice to see new people in the MD. area. That is a hell of a price on a 90. How many miles? What is the condition of your weatherstrip on the sides of the top? Replacing this may fix your leak. Good Luck, Guy
