Default PKE Problems

When I bought my 96 CE LT1 it didn't come with the PKE fob and I wasn't interested in spending $100+ on a replacement fob since I didn't know that the PKE module worked. I ended up installing a Viper alarm that worked very well for several months. The last few weeks the remote lock/unlock only works occasionally (generally works after a drive of 10+ minutes but not otherwise) and the rear hatch opens on it's own while sitting in the parking lot.

Based on other discussions here I'm guessing that the problem is the PKE module going out. Since the chimes have never worked in the car I thought it might be worth taking the dash apart and replacing both at the same time, but money is tight right now and I'm saving for new seat covers and foam. The Viper installation includes a wire to splice in and disable the built-in alarm, but I didn't connect it because I couldn't figure out which wire it connects to.

Now the question, if I connect the alarm disable wire from the Viper alarm would it bypass the PKE system and get the remote working again until I can afford the replacement module and the door chime module? I only bought the Viper for the door lock/unlock for now until I move to a big town in a couple of years.

That's a great price and I will definitely follow up with her, but it will be a couple of months before I can scrape $100 together. I looked at the leather seat covers, but I will also need foam as mine is falling apart and I'm not really up for dealing with the hog ring stuff. It also seems mine would be more expensive as they are sport seats and he told me they'd cost more like $349 for those.

But I definitely need new foam and I am not even slightly interested in working with Hog Rings.
