Painted Calipers, Master Cylinder
First, all the fluid drained out of my master cylinder when I took the line loose from the calipers. Do I need to reprime it before bleeding the new calipers?
Second, wondering if I should paint the new calipers, anybody had luck getting the paint to stick to the aluminum? I see caliper specific paint at the parts store, doesn't mention aluminum. Red or black?

Regular Krylon spray paint been on for years now, just did a good clean and de-grease. 3 coats and clear.

I used Por-15 caliper paint. Happy with them so far. honestly if the caliper are new and you don't need to install right away I would consider having them powder coated.
When I was doing vintage 2 stroke bikes a wile back we used appliance epoxy in a spray bomb. Worked good gut took about 3 days to cure.
The Krylon looks good. Don't know how it would be if you got brake fluid on them, if that ever happened. I'm sure We Gone could answer that.
If you do it you're self just make sure you get them clean.

I'm using stock 89 wheels so the calipers aren't really that visible anyway, just want to keep them from corroding.
WG, did you use any special aluminum primer? Looks real good the way you taped off the machined places. Think I'll do red since they're not that visible.
And I will stay this, there wasn't much chance of the old ones falling off, it took maximum effort to break every bolt loose, I mean straining like I haven't in years, probably be paying for that tomorrow.
Any tips on the master cylinder?

Actually, I painted them black no primer than took a fine file followed by a file wrapped with 400,600,800 wet dry on the raised fins and cleared. Ron, never gotten any fluid on them so can't say how it would effect the paint. I have done the master cylinder with a cast aluminum color.
Here are some rears done in red.

I just wanted to add my 2 cents in on this old thread... just completed my first caliper recondition using POR-15 and must say that I am happy with the results. My calipers had been painted some long time ago so I had to strip them down to clean aluminum. Used the etching cleaner as a last step before applying two coats of red POR-15 (waiting 3 hrs between coats). The result is a real hard and smooth finish that looks real good. Hopefully it will withstand the test of time!
