Default A/C Problems

Hey guys, new to the forum and to Corvette ownership so take it easy on me.

I picked up a '96 LT-4 6-Speed car this week with 120k and I love it. Truly amazing how well this 20 year old beast gets up and runs.

I have a couple problems with the HVAC system though.

They are:
1. Compressor comes on for 5 seconds before shutting off. Will do this repeatedly for as long as I let it
2. The air never really seems to be coming out of the top vents, I'll select the button for the upper vents and it lights up. After a few minutes (maybe) I'll get some air coming out of the lower and upper vents.
3. What air is coming out of the vents is slow and doesn't match the 10 that the read-out displays.
4. The air isn't cold (Pretty sure that would be because the Compressor is never really working

I stopped at Wal-Mart and picked up an 18oz can of refrigerant. Turned the A/C on its "highest" setting and proceeded to try and add some refrigerant. This is when I noticed the compressor clicking on and off.

So basically I think I have problems on two fronts. The compressor and the blower motor itself.

Can anybody weigh in and give me a good starting point? Georgia is hot in the summer so I'm dying here.

I'd start with getting a set of ac gauges from Harbor freight. You need to know your high and low side pressures. The compressor kicking on and off may be a bad compressor or it may be over or under charged. Ac work is fun. The rest I'm not sure about as far as hvac controls.

Look on youtube to see how to use the self diagnostic feature on your climate control. But sounds like it just needs a can of freon. And your blower module is on the housing under the hood on the pass side. If the compressor started kicking on and off after adding the freon it might need some more.

If it was totally empty, it will need more than a can to fill.
