Back in the day when Lingenfelter designed the Super Ram, it was called the Lingenfelter "Box" TPI. I believe it was called the "Super Ram" when Accel started marketing it.
Not that much of a performance improvement then?? Had to ask!
I imagine you would gain mid range torque at the expense of HP above 5500rpm... But, I think the Super ram is really better suited to improve the L-98. Also I think you would have to modify a regular super ram to work on an Lt1 as Vader said.
I could be wrong but I think there may have been an LT1 version of the super ram sold for a few years, never heard of anyone doing that type of swap though... If mine was an LT1 instead of an L-98 i would not have a super ram...
There was an LT1-converted-base manifold for SRs, but I haven't seen them in some time. A few here did it back in the day. There's really no need to do this as the L98 and other GEN 1 SBCs are what needs it, not Gen II. You can change gearing and displacement to make up the torque and ET down low, for example.
Lingenfelter designed the "Box" to improve the mid-to-upper range torque band on the L98s because the L98s would run out of breath above 4200 rpms. The late 89/90 L98s were low-end torque monsters and it was felt that moving the torque curve up some would not sacrifice too much on the lower end and definitely improve the upper end. It worked great for the stock L98s.
He raved about them on his 383s he was doing to. His 383 packages were 12 second capable on street tires and smog legal even in California. That was insane for the late 80s.
In case anyone was wondering what happened with my sorry looking well used super ram intake that was missing it's original lid (refer to first post).
Here's what it looks like installed on my car now...
I painstakingly cleaned up and polished the intake, followed by clear powder coat. The lid was my design which I had machined out of a 3/8 thick aluminum plate and then I polished/powder coated it.
Looks great!
The SR is a much better intake than people give it credit for you can make ridiculous amounts of driveable torque with them if you put some work to it.
If the combo is right and the car can hook theres not much thats going to stay with you on the street

Yep been a long time since Ive seen one
Lingenfelter was the guy to make C4s run back in the day.

Thank Cuisinartvette.
The install was kind of a pain but not as bad as people say, you just have to be patient and know there will be challenges. My engine is nothing crazy, just a nice (fresh) little 355 with forged internals, ported heads, cam and headers but hopefully the super ram will let the engine perform its best.
The biggest reason I got it though was the unique period correct look.
I hope you did all the mod tricks before the install...
SR is awesome with good heads 219 cam and mild gears. I tried it, but they can't support CI very well.
You will find builds from the old days on 400+ ci motors, but they kill hp eventually.350-406 they rock.
I tried to do a bit of research before the install so I did my best to prepare, it was a bit of a pain to install but I knew what to expect so it was not that bad.
no worries about big ci for me. My engine is just a fairly fresh little 355 with a bit of work done to it (forged internals, ported heads, cam, headers) so I think the SR will flow all this engine can handle.
Looks like it would be difficult to pull off in an automatic. Not sure the TV Cable would clear under that thing. I can always dream though.....
Thanks. Ya since mine is a manual I didn't have to worry about that. I think there is a special bracket the you need for using a super ram on an auto. I think it has long been discontinued though so not sure how hard it would be to find.

Nice job! I ran a SR for years. Great manifold street/strip.
