Checked out that radiator, it's not gunked up. Thermostat seems to be working fine, had a mechanic buddy of mine test it while I was at work, even took the temp of the upper and lower hoses and said it was working fine. Both fans came on, and she never went above 235 for him, even parked and idling. He DID say that she has a high idle (1100RPMS in park), but said the IVAC may be stuck open a little. I'm starting to think this is related to the starting issue I've been having, a clogged fuel filter maybe?

Finishing off the old threads to make sure they actually have an ending. I ended up replacing the water pump when I replaced my opti, replaced my rad hoses and thermostat too, and flushed the system a couple more times. Haven't had an issue with overheating since then, though temps will still get up to 230-235 in traffic - since the car is now 24, I just figure that's the radiator. Otherwise, haven't had a problem with overheating since. Sorry, I know that's not very specific, but I wanted to make sure I came back and gave the thread an ending. I'm assuming the overheating was related to the opti being bad, as it appears that this can sometimes happen?

My 95 coupe used to run really hot... in the same range as yours. Like so many members on the forum have said this engine likes to run hot. Although it is normal I was more comfortable with cooler temps and ended up replacing the radiator with a DeWitt. My temp now doesn't go any higher than 200 degrees. I believe that the higher temps are fine but your comfort level with it may be different than mine.

Oh, and don't forget to flush your fluids regularly.

Toss the Haynes manual and get a real FSM. Find out where the sensor is and hit it with an infrared thermometer so you know that it is right. Also hit various points on the radiator to make sure there aren't cold spots in the radiator.
