Default AC confused

Ok, I bought the AC Pro retro kit and tried to install the adaptor on the drier but it does not fit. I'm wondering if there is/was a different fitting on the driers back then. I am confused.
Any input would be great.
1992 Vette....looks like the original drier not upgraded.
The adaptor does fit on my gauges ( R12)
So I am confused.

R12 and 134a use a different style connector. The R12 screw on and the 134a is a quick connect type. To go 134 you'll need the fitting kit for the car and a new set of gauges.

Even if you did get the adaptors to fit, you can't add R134 gas into a system that has R12. I believe the adaptors are usually used when a system is being converted. You should be adding R12 into a system that has R12.

Or are you trying to use the adaptors for a conversion to 134?

I've done it. I had no AC so I bought the kit from Walmart at least 10 years ago. Came with fittings, guage, leak seal and 2 cans of R134. Still have air

so you think I can just install the new adaptor and just add the new 134....I believe it comes with 1 oz of oil in it or should I add additional ester oil..

You said there was no R12 in the system? That means if you don't fix the leak, the same will happen again.
Just saying the kit I used worked and after a decade hasn't hurt anything. I wouldn't tell you it's ok

I have a 91 that has access ports that would not fit my gauges for R12. I took it to a auto AC place to upgrade and recharge the system. The tech told me the ports were for R134 and had already been upgraded but since it had leaked he suggested changing the ports from the aluminum ones to new SS with new cores (their most common leak culprit). He added some dye which showed the leaky port but not leaking anywhere else. They added 30 oz of R134 which fully charged my system. It is working as designed.

Good luck,

WEK.

I think R12 uses mineral oil. R134 uses ester or Pag oil. I think all the old oil has to be removed before new oil is added which is more than 1oz. Not sure how crusinfanatic handled the oil situation.

I would do a little more research on the old posts regarding your AC problem. R12, or 134????? 2 different deals. You need to flush system, and change some things...Ziggy....After rereading your 1st post, My new dryer for my 86 had 1 fitting my gauge would not fit (It had 2) It might be metric???
