if you can locate a copy, this is pretty good reading on the C4 development with lots of early c4 development photos - mock-ups, clay models, etc.. the breadbox was suppose to attached to some sort of energy absorbing device in the passenger compartment, but the motor vehicle safety standard MCSS208 was not implemented in time for C4 production, so only the static breadbox survived.

I remember seeing the one with the round gauges, a 1983 concept car, back in 2003 at the NCM. I think there were three 1983 concepts. Don't know if they are still there.

Hey Gang
The bread box was to meet passenger protection standards that were never enacted.


I've had my flat panel installed over a year now in my '86 and it's one of my favorite interior mods.....that and the Sylvania LEDs in the cluster.




Jonathan.....


BTW my breadbox is on the shelf in my garage gathering dust if anyone needs it.
