Default HELP. Unresponsive throttle.

Background: This weekend i took a trip to Sequoia National Park, about 300 miles round trip. It was very hot but my car didn't overheat, although it did stay near 240 during stop and go.

So, today as I was driving home from school. Car started fine. I get to a light, when it turns green I gently give it gas and the car responds for about 3cm of throttle pedal travel, after that there is no response at all ( checked at the next light, did the same thing, but this time i pushed the pedal all the way in, still nothing.) HOWEVER when I let the throttle go it seems to catch in that 3cm of throttle.

So basically when i go to give it gas it goes for a little then the throttle completely dies.

When I got home i let it idle for a little and noticed that the car began to run slightly rough, i was trying to recreate the loss of throttle response however the car did rev just fine, but again rough idle (slight rpm surge and drop at idle, give or take 500 rpm).

New battery, new pump. Car is 96 CE A4.

I need the input of the forum to diagnose what it could be.

*Could it be I just need gas? I got back Monday night and hit reserve just as i got home. I had school early today and I meant to gas up on the way home (live about 6 miles from school) but i was scared to because of the throttle response.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

UPDATE
Drove halfway down the street, car engine dies, service engine soon light turns on. Push car to station, half tank goes in, car runs fine. Service engine soon light still on. Will scan later today.
This is the first times ive ever run out of gas, only because i was short on time and had an exam to take, so please dont torch me too much over it

If anyone has any idea over the light or think it is okay clear id love the input.
