I have ask this question before but can't find the old thread,If I want to soften up my ride on a 1984 Corvette ( no zr1 suspension) would using KyB GAS Mono tube shocks do the job and are they just as good as Bilstein. Car has 80k miles on it just figure it is time to change the shocks. old shocks visually don't see any leaks, but quite sure gas has leaked over a period of time. Hope to hear from someone.
I bought my 88 in January of this year and it still had the original Bilstien shocks after 125,000 miles. I put new KYB shocks on and am very pleased with the ride.
I, also, replaced my Bilstien's with KYB and have a much more comfortable ride. I would do it again in a heartbeat. Even my wife noticed the difference.

They will soften the ride to some degree, and no they are not as good a shock as the Bilstein....not if your measure of "goodness" is long life and superior wheel control.

I am looking for a smoother ride does anyone have a part# for these shocks? are there more the one set of KYB shocks for a 95 Vette?
Fellas finally got around to replacing my front shocks on my 84.The ride now is much better, but it suppose to be better. When removing the old shocks the cylinder just dropped down from what appears to not have any gas.No signs of leaking anywhere. 81,000 miles on the car. Onto the next project replacingthe rear shocks, most likely can expect the same results as the front.
