first off : I am serious , no BS. every time I look at the silver devil(aka CE) I get PISSED. price of repairs and pm in 14 months of ownership set to exceed 1.5 times the cost of vehicle in June. should I try to cast out the mechanical devils myself, or call out a pro (Jesuit)? something must be done as I will no longer keep paying the monthly cost of a house note to drive a C4.
I currently own 4 C4’s. ( yes, I know, I’m crazy, my wife reminds me on a daily basis ). They are all drivers, not a garage queen in the bunch. NCRS is not even in my vocabulary. I spend very little on them other than regular fluid changes. I have had no major issues in 12 years. Not one of them is near to being perfect, but they are fun to drive.
This is what happens to you after flying Boeings an AB’s for 35 years, you just need a release.
If you think cars can be expensive, try owning a 40 year old Cessna for 20 years. 1 AMU (aviation monetary unit) = $ 1000.
I respectfully disagree, Dt86. Due to my age (86) I had to get out of the vette business.
I was just comparing my present vehicles to the LT1s that I drove for 17 years.
I purchased my '93 6-spd. ruby convertible in '95 with 12K miles. Opti, water pump, seat bladders, seat track, radio, antenna, wheel center caps, coolant reservoir, rear deck hatch latch, and clutch all failed within 18 months.
Compared to my 2004 Expedition (bought new) has never had a part fail.
Wife's 2006 Mustang GT (bought new) has never had a part fail.

Oh, will Y'all just pucker up and kiss the damn frog (its a Texas thing)
Cars break. If you want dependability buy a Kia. They aren't any fun, and chicks don't dig them but millennials will appreciate your commit to ..... whatever millennials appreciate.
right, but you’re comparing a car from 93 (and mostly developed in early 80’s) with cars from the mid 2000’s. A lot of advancements in the automotive world happened in that time, and in general I don’t think anyone would argue if your point is just to say that a new car from 2004 is more reliable than one from 93. But if we’re comparing C4’s to other cars from that era, I don’t think they’re any less reliable from anything else in that vintage.
To the OP, I would say that owning an older car means expecting some repair cost, but the cost you’ve mentioned is absurd. I saw one post where you said your cost of ownership is averaging $830 month for 14 months?? Where is that money going? I definitely wouldn’t keep spending that kind of money either, but that’s definitely not normal. What exactly have you gotten done for that amount of money?
Looked at all your posts I don't see much that is out of the ordinary for a corvette with your mileage and age that would be that excessive.
water pump
opti
fuel pump
Am I missing something?
missing quite a few items. terminal cancer issues prevent me from doing any labor on car, so it's the $100 an hour labor that's "killing me". I will do the exorcism the in the AM, that I can handle. the first $5k in repairs/pm was to be expected. the second $5k,not so much. now that I am well into the third $5k I am done. $2500 for ignition work in MAY, so what happens ? a/c craps out today, quoted $ 1,500 for that repair AND the rt. headlight failed to open last week. that will be close to 2k for repairs this month, next month ? alternator of steering rack...the silver devil.

Reason: spelling
After reading this post so far, I'd think that most of us are completely stunned. If you truly spent that much money in repairs in 14 months, (over $15,000.00!) plus the initial cost of the car, you need to dump it as fast as you can. You don't need an exorcism, you just need someone to hide your wallet and checkbook.
NOTHING major. IF the silver devil had new rims, new interior etc. that's one thing. however, the car looks exactly like it did when purchased. you can't see where 1 cent of the money went.
