I doubt that the foil backing will cause much interference with that antenna. What antenna doesn't have much range to begin with and I feel if anything the foil backing would actually cause the range to increase, but I could be wrong. I wouldn't worry about actually putting the sound deadening under the antenna I would just put it around it. That area of the car is pretty rigid and I think you'll be just fine without putting any sound deadening there.

I already pulled it off with it's "plastic rivets", so I was looking for some ideas. The increasing range came to mind, but I remember when I posted this picture wondering what it was, someone pointed out the interference angle. I think I'll just put a couple of layers of Gorilla tape between the foil and the antenna

Think of it this way, when we are getting in or out of our cars how often do we really need to lock or unlock the doors from an extended range? Most times we are not locking or unlocking the doors until we are real close to the car anyway. Like I said I wouldn't worry about it much interfering with the range of the antenna.

Not so much for rigidity as WHERE exterior sound is reflecting from. Most of the internal cabin noise comes from rolling tires -- which is why I concentrated on wheel wells. That said, where you terminate your exhaust can make a difference if (and how much) sound will "go up under the bumper" into the area in question.

Now...Geez! I've never seen the official PKE "antenna". That thing is HUGE!! Bet it'll unlock from a mile away! LOL My aftermarket Bulldog system doesn't use anything like that (for reception). And, it'll lock/unlock from about 30 feet.

Didn't get much time for the 'Vette today but I did get the sill plates done and their trim on as well.

Default Some more test fitting

Hey gang, I got the passenger side carpet in tonight and then I test fitted the sill plate covers. The carpet definitely requires some trimming. It was so long ago that I took the carpet out now I can't remember if the carpeted piece behind the seats Lays over the floor carpeting or if it goes under it. I also don't remember if the carpet for the side of the transmission tunnel lays over the floor carpeting or under it. I believe both of those pieces lay over the floor carpeting. When I say lays over it I mean that it overlaps the floor carpeting. I have been scouring the net trying to figure this one out. Anyway, here are some pics of the passenger side carpeting.

Default Floor carpet is in!

Hey gang. Today was the first day of my four-day vacation. Unfortunately most of my day was spent driving around to different upholstery shops. If you haven't seen my other post on sem color coat application, I had sprayed my seats much like the other interior pieces. After checking on them this morning I discovered that the product was not adhering like I needed it to. Unfortunately yes, but I do not blame it on the product itself, their products are wonderful. So needless to say I need to have my seats completely reupholstered. Anyhow, this evening I did finalize the floor carpet on both the driver and passenger side. It went in extremely easy and only required minor trimming. For the rest of the evening I will be working on the side panels for the transmission tunnel with the hopes of being able to install them tomorrow. All updated pictures are added to the main post, but I will always update here as well. Thanks for taking a look all and as always if you have any questions just ask.

Default Side pieces installed

I was able to get the side panels installed today. It was a tight fit with the new carpet. Surprisingly, the carpet pieces for the sides did not need any trimming. So far they are the only pieces that fit perfect on the first try. I will say getting the screws to line up is a gigantic pain!

Time to glue!

Man, I remember how much time I spent on that project...especially pulling old carpet from the door/dash panels! NOT FUN!

Great job using installation and/or sound/heat material or both. Either way, you'll be impressed with the rolling road noise reduction. I know it will sound funny, but I removed my rear outer wheel wells and put insulation behind them too. By itself, it makes quite a bit of difference considering the well is just behind your head! That insulation has been there since 2010 w/o problem.

There is night/day difference in road noise and (lack of) rattles in mine vs other stock C4's...mostly due to the insulation. Maybe a little because the entire plastic interior was removed, dyed, and reinstalled too?

Looking good!

What type of insulation did you use on the wheel wells? I had that same thought earlier today as I was driving with the windows up. I usually can't hear the tire noise with the windows down haha. I've been thinking of pulling up the rear carpets when winter comes and laying insulation and I'd definitely like to try the wheel wells first to measure each insulation improvement.

Default Door panels done

I finally got the chance to glue the carpet onto the door panels. This was tricky as all the Contours don't match exactly. In the end I feel that it turned out good. Again you just have to make sure that you are using a really good adhesive. Now I just have to figure out how to attach my new door sweeps to the door panel. The old ones were stapled on and I'm not sure my stapler has enough power to go through the metal strip that is inside of the door sweeps.

Believe it or not, common (paper-backed) household insulation like you put in a wall! LOL

Carpet padding question....

I was planning on reusing these pieces(they don't smell at all), my reasoning is that there are areas that look like they are "compressed" to fit somewhere specific. If I use my new padding and install the carpet I'm afraid it might look "bulky". The rear hatch deck padding is similar(compressed in certain areas)......thoughts??

The padding that really needs replacing are under the seats/floor board and the trans hump/tunnel

The rear compartment is almost done, but I'm unsure what to do in these 2 areas(they look like they should get some sound deadening material). I bought what A.O. recommended and how much, so I should have plenty, that leads to another question: can I use what I have left over and add a 2nd layer to certain areas?

Speaker enclosure, - wanted to add kilmat to the internal area and even stuff some carpet padding. Will that affect the speaker/sound?

Storage compartment - thinking it could use some kilmat? The compartment next to it houses the ABS pump and I'm not messing with it. The oem padding looks fine, maybe I'll add some kilmat around the top and go low as I can with out messing with the lines coming out of the unit

Thoughts??

As far as reusing your padded pieces go right ahead. I personally just chose to replace everything with new. As for your sound deadening definitely cover the storage compartment with it because a lot of road noise will radiate from that area. In the compartment that houses your ABS pump, just cover as much as you possibly can with sound deadening. I covered as much of the bare areas as I could without removing the pump.

Thanks A.O.....how about the speaker enclosure with kilmat (I'll assume yes) and putting carpet padding in there on top of the killmat?

go ahead and put the sound deadening in there but I would refrain from putting carpeting in there unless you plan on gluing it down.. it will shift over time and can rest against the back of the speaker and cause unwanted noise.

Default Finished!

OK gang. I finally finished the carpet installation. I got promoted to a supervisor at work and while that means more money, it also means less free time! 😡 I just finished rebuilding my seat track with new transmissions I ordered from a vendor on here. Got those done and installed tonight. Just waiting for my seats to get finished at the upholstery shop. After that it's down to little stuff like the radio, Amp, having the targa re lensed, and figuring out why my ac doesn't work! Ahhh well. Anyhow, here are pics of the finished product. You can see the door panels are back on. Overall, I'm really pleased with how it turned out. I will be sure to make a final post on this thread once the seats are back in.
