EBay has been the best place. They have gone up in price over the years and hard to find used ones these days. I would look every say for a few weeks to see if a deal pops up and get an idea of what they are going for. It looks like there might be some after market ones out there for full price. A good price would be under $100 but hard to find. Selection is slim these days.

may just be the contact on the inside. There are a few places that sell the case with the rubber button piece for a lot less $. You may want to open up the bad remote and see if cleaning the inside with some rubbing alcohol helps at all. Dirt and oils from our fingers gets inside and gums up the contacts sometimes.

Give the FOB a good visual with a magnifier looking at everything as well as the ball cylinder. Careful when handling it.
This is definitely a strange problem where it will not open but will lock and can't say for sure that the rattle is directly related to your problem. But it's worth a look to see if you can get it to rattle again. Since buttons are not used to open or close the door(s), I can't see how they would affect normal passive operation.

I reprogramed mine. it was working fine, I must have locked the doors manually or something. then it didn't work.
I was told to put the key in the ignition but not turn on , then push the button on the remote 5-7 times until you hear it click.
