Also, aside from the fade, the carpet themselves are in excellent shape and that is the reason I haven't replaced them yet.

The weather stripping needs attention next imo. Also, the towel in the back is to keep dirt out of the carpet. These things fling it everywhere!
it’s not too bad, it’s 36 years old and plastic. Your door cards look good, mine have been bricked and fix by a succession of Luddites. I was hoping for red interior though, black on red look wicked .

lol.

But seriously though, interior is in good shape. It was a daily for a long time by the PO so it's expected. It is as good or better than most from around the same time period with 100k miles...

For the age, it's in great shape and could likely be dyed back to the original color. The carpet in my 86 has done the same thing. With the windows open, the fibers fly all over the place. It's quite distracting really. It's time for new carpet for my car. I would also prefer black interior with a black exterior. Just flows together nicely!

I'm just afraid the dye will harden it.

That's fair. Maybe just replace it when you're ready and live with it in the meantime. Exactly what I'm doing with mine.

That's what I'm thinking. It sucks because it's so soft still it just doesn't look right. Actually it looks very 80s honestly. Had I not noticed the very upper parts of the carpet under the dash I'd have thought that was the correct color.

I don't remember a brand name, but I have used spray dye for carpet and upholstery with great success. Whatever it is I used did not make the carpet stiff. Two previous cars I owned were convertibles with black carpeting prone to fading. The spray dye was easy to use. I'm going to guess I bought it from Eastwood.

SEM brand?

Also I've been looking for torch red interior parts and have come across black interiors often, maybe that's the route you should take

Great! The overdrive is nice now, the linkages I sprayed with wd40 and grease and its actually a lot smoother now and the clutch is a joke. It had what i thought was a factory clutch (seemed like an oem pressure plate and assembly) and the thing was all in about 1/4 inch off the floor. The new clutch (McLeod super street pro single disk) is a joke. I have some chatter if I let off quicker but that seemed to get better as I drove it last night... probably why they want a bit of break in. But what amazes me is how light the pedal is now. It used to be a workout clutching that thing on and off and now it's really light. I have full engagement about 1/3 off the floor travel wise and when it starts to bite it just grabs. It's a little tricky getting a smooth roll at low speeds but if I bring up the rpms a bit before it bites it just feels like a nice loose TC then goes. Very interesting setup, the light pedal is going to take some getting used to because it doesn't transmit as well how the old one started to bite. And like I said, when it starts it kind of just snaps in. Overall I'm happy. Overdrive is now flawless too.

As far as installing, I couldn't get the trans to mate all the way to the bell housing, had about a quarter inch or so left so I put on the 4bolts and used my pinky on the ratchet to see if it would slide in the rest of the way. It did and didn't really resist so I guess that means it was fine. I just couldn't get enough force on it on my back I suppose. Otherwise, new speed sensor is in. For anyone who needs one, there is a gentleman on ebay selling the later style one for about 130$ shipped with the pigtail to adapt to the old style plug. Real acdelco one at that.

Anyway, as it sits now, shes finished until something happens as far as the renegade is concerned.

Interesting about your clutch feel. I installed a McLeod MC75125 StreetPro and it’s heavy. It’s a great clutch but I’ve often wondered whether a duel plate would have been a bit lighter and better for a daily driver.
