Hello. Ryan here and I'm a new member and soon to be vette owner. Need some advice on one I think is a good buy. Going Saturday 7 hr drive to look and possibly buy a 93', 6 speed, q blue (1 of 800 out of 22,000), z07 performance package (also 1 of 800 out of 22,000) very clean with 84k miles. So I feel after researching for a couple weeks and test driving a c4 and c5 that I might have found a good candidate. I like to pull the rpo codes when I have interest and I cam across the z07 code. After never coming across this yet I did some research and found that it is a pretty good package, all the suspension upgrades, brakes, same size wheels all around, and some oil coolers ect. Basically what's in the zr1 for suspension. When I brought it up to the seller I acted as I didn't know much and he said it was just a performance brake package. This is part of it put I read it's much more. He's asking $8,000 and I feel its worth the 14 he round trip but would like a little wisdom if I'm correct or not with the 84,000 miles it has. Any info would be great as I only have till Saturday. Should I hurry and grab my first vette or be patient and keep looking. I would like something somewhat easy to resell when I'm ready to upgrade and thought the options on this car will help with that. Thanks for your input, Ryan

Reason: title change
Quasar blue is a great color, 6 speed is always desirable, and Z07 is also. If the interior, paint, and weather stripping are also good it could be a very good buy. Check it out completely and make sure everything works. Check the date code on the tires. If they are over 6 years old they are ready for replacement. Check for leaks under the car. If all seems good go for it, and welcome to the group.
As Kmcoldcars said if it checks out it is a good deal. The ZO7 package is actually a bit more suspension than a ZR1 has with higher spring rates and larger sway bars. It will ride very stiff even on the tour setting but it will handle better than almost any car out there. It is a package that was meant for the track. You will not be disappointed.
Sounds good. Search for things to look for when purchasing a C4. See https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...ying-a-c4.html This is probably the most definitive guide.
Don't get caught up in the "number x of x" produced for any C4. They are not collectables and probably never will be in our lifetimes.
As we are in Fall, prices of Vettes and other "seasonal" cars tend to decrease. (And yes, we all know they can be driven in the rain, snow, ice, etc....)
Keep us posted.

Agree!!! Post in teh regional section here or start a thread asking for someone who really knows these to check it out.
There are certain problem areas in any type of car to look for, including these.
Sounds like a desirable car in general but as said its no collector and will never be.
Get it cause YOU love it..dont settle they made lots of C4s.
I have not. I did ask about that and it's in a very small town and he said when the mechanic did the oil a couple weeks ago they inspected the under undercarriage and all looked well and that I could always talk to the mechanic. Besides fluid leaks and rust what else should I look for?
How long has he had it? Why is he selling it? Has the clutch ever been replaced? When were the brakes last serviced? What other services have been performed recently?
Check the date codes on the tires. Push all the buttons to make sure everything works. Check the AC. As cv67 mentioned, let it idle for a while to see if it gets hot. Remember LT1s may get to 230 before they level off and drop a little. Should be 190 or so once it is in clean air rolling down the road. None of these are deal killers but could help negotiate a lower price.
Pay for a CarFax report before you go, it will be $39 well spent.
Prices are regional and seasonal on these cars but I would say it sounds like a great deal if the car is solid and unmolested! I just bought a base model 93 A4 with 87k on it for $8400 about a month ago after looking at several of them in the Chicagoland area. What I learned during my search are the ones for sale tend to look fantastic in pictures and be a big disappointment in person. I walked away from at least 5 of them without even bothering to go for a drive. The one I bought for that kind of money had cold air, hot heat, a working PKE system, a working antenna with an override switch (which is probably why it still worked) and completely stock working bose cd/tape, and no performance modifications. I wanted a totally stock non bubba'd car. Invest in the carfax I used it to verify that mine was one owner for 25 years. You don't want one that has been passed around. I got burned on tire date codes but overall no remorse a C4 is SO much car for under 10k and I absolutely love cruising around in it. I think it's the childhood dream car for many people my age.
Make sure there are no codes, I have a '92 and they along with the '93 Vettes can have ECM issues. It is not the end of the world as SIA Electronics does a good job repairing them if needed. I drove my '92 home 250 miles from Michigan and it ran great. About a month later I started having random odd issues caused by cold solder joints in the ECM. No problems since being repaired 3 years ago.

I agree with this it's very easy to bring a paper clip with you and jumper the top right to bottom left sockets as you are looking at the OBD1 connector under the dash on our year Corvettes. Then just turn the key to run and write down the codes if there are any.
