Default PKE remote programing problem

Hi, new here. I recently bought a 93 40th anniversary vette. It didnt come with a key fob so I bought one used. I cant get it programed, I get the car set and when I bring the remote to the car the PKE light just keeps flashing. Seems the remote is not giving a signal although it does work to pop the hatch. Anyone run into this? Thanks for your help.

You need to activate the PKE system. To do this you have to hold the remote right up by the dash near the ignition switch. Press and hold the door button on the fob until the locks cycle once. About 2 seconds. PKE should light on the DIC.
now walk away from the car and the horn should honk once.

ok, I did that and it beeped. Does this mean its programed or do I need to do that again? Now the hatch doesnt pop open and doors arent locked. Ya, I have zero experiance with this

"Stand next to the door (with the keys out of the ignition) and hold down the door button for several seconds. You should hear a clack-clack sound like the doors locking and unlocking. That means the system has been turned back on and it should then work OK with passive locking/unlocking the doors "

OK, first, read everything about the PKE system (in your owners manual) so you understand how it should work. Next check the fob battery, it should be a Renata brand CR2450N putting out at least 3.0 volts. If the fob unlocks the hatch it is programmed OK, don't keep trying to reprogram it (it is actually the car that gets programmed, not the fob), you will just confuse things. You said it honked the horn when you walk away. Do that, put the fob down on the ground and walk back to the car. Should be locked. Get the fob and walk back to the car, doors should be unlocked. If it locks and unlocks the doors, that's it, your done. If it isn't locking the doors and opening the hatch do as Sprongs and Talfryyn suggest.

I got my owners manual from the car this morning. I popped the hatch and that worked. I walked away and heard the lock and the beep. I put the fob down and checked for a locked door. The door opened and the alarm went off. (not locked) After that the hatch wouldnt pop or the lock and beep. The DIC shows the PKE enabled. This seems pretty simple to walk up to the car and it unlocks and walk away from the car and it locks. Mine doesnt lock and it doesnt seem to work well with the beep and why doesnt the hatch work again?
And as mentioned in the first post when setting up the programing it didnt complete as the PKE light kept flashing and didnt store the code.

I also tried to lock the door by moving the door lever and it wouldnt lock. Right now I can only lock the door with the key.

If the hatch opens the programming is complete, no idea why it would work and then not work and then work again. If the switches don't cause the doors (is it both doors that don't lock or just one?) to lock but the keys work you are probably going to have to look inside the doors. Do you have access to a Factory Service Manual?

Also, you didn't mention anything about the fob battery; although a weak battery could explain the hatch not working sometimes but wouldn't explain the switches not working.

If the code wasn't stored the hatch would never work.

No service manual. Battery is new. neither door locks or unlocks.

Tried another battery this morning and now theres no beeps, clicks or anything.
