Default MOATES Officially Closed

www.moates.net

22 November, 2022

Holiday Greetings!

As we move into the end of 2022, we sincerely want to say "THANK YOU ALL" for support and patronage. It's been a thrill helping folks with their efforts, and we've truly appreciated the opportunities to socialize, exchange ideas, learn, teach, and facilitate along the way.

We're closing down the webstore and related operations so that we can pursue the balance of our lives in different areas. There are several challenges that have led us to this decision, and we hope you can all appreciate the following:

The headwinds of production supply shortages have cut our supply lines to the marrow. Many components we've used have lead times of a year or more, with costs having increased significantly along the way. There's no end in sight, and we don't want to sacrifice quality with questionable sourcing or chase the costs by increasing prices.

We've been doing this for a while now, and we're tired and getting older. It's time for us to take a step back and focus on health, family, and overall wellness. Running Moates.net has taken a tremendous amount of time, which is a limited resource and in short supply. Between arthritis and chronic pain of hands, backs, and other various injuries of body parts, it is a challenge to physically perform tasks needed to keep things going and we need to change what we are doing to improve our quality of life.

We wish you the best on all your projects, whatever they may become. It's been an amazing experience, and again, we truly appreciate you all as we take this step!

Giving thanks,

Craig, Bonnie, and Dave

Another death due to the New World Order. Hope people wake up soon. "Year lead times and prices going up with no end in sight..."
Events like this threaten the things we love. These older c4 and more will go extinct if we don't fight these bastards.

Sad to see this business and folks go even though I never knew of them. My thoughts are with you.

On the shelf I actually have a Moates Quarterhorse chip and a standard J2 chip. The difference is the Quarterhorse has data logging capabilities.

I also have a fully licensed version of Moates tuning software for Ford MPFI. This stuff is destined for tuning my 92 Foxbody. I just have not gotten to it yet.

It sucks they are closing up but I suppose I can still get any technical support I need from enthusiasts over at Gearhead EFI

Thanks Steven, glad it's running great. You deserve it, you went through a lot to get that setup going. Looking forward to future track results/ dyno numbers.

As for Moates , its a huge loss for the DIY Tuning Community. We were very blessed to have such wonderful Vendor.
Whatever of their products are out there is all that's left to work with.

That's sad news but those are all good reasons. Thanks for supplying gear for so long! I bought Moates equipment several times for tuning always good stuff!

I guess the next ECU related project for me is going to be a standalone.

I wish we would have been given a heads up. Is there any inventory left? There were a few things I wanted to get. Like chips.

I think I still have an ostrich and some other stuff in a box somewhere.

Craig was very helpful providing cost effective electronics. I remember using my pocket programmer to burn chips, all the time spent between burning, logging, tuning, etc. The Ostrich (and other emulators) cut that time in half.

I don't really do anything with stock stuff any longer, other than my '94 which is flash tune. The aftermarket stuff is so much better now, and very cost effective.

Sad to see them close.

I bought a cable from them for my '94 and later my '95 for tuning. They were a good source of parts and info.

Super disappointed…I was planning on an ostrich + their flash burner chip thing.

Are there any similar alternatives? What alternatives do we have for tuning other than one time burn chips?

Maybe someone could carry on with it if they’d open source the whole thing? Release the designs, circuit diagrams + parts lists + code etc…? Ideally someone would buy it that plans to keep it going but if not…

They were always good to me when I dealt with them. Good for them to retire and enjoy life. Best of luck.

I agree, and I know everyone in this forum has been saying this for decades but in all seriousness for the first time in my memory the average C4 price is higher than the average C5 price, and I think that bodes well for resto mods and lightly modded C4s that would make good use of stuff like what was offered from MOATES

I will shoot an email to Batee also
