You are correct :yesnod: I have an L98 engine (sans Opti) but still don't like the idea of hosing down my engine :nonod:

I use Simple Green, Q-Tips and paper towels

Yep...I also use a small air compresor to blow out some of the biger dirt. Just be sure to wear glasses, or you'll be sorry. Just takes time and a lot of elbow grease. I also use aluminum polish on anything shiny without an ID numbr. :D

I use Simple Green, an old toothbrush, a small bowl of water (for rinsing the toothbrush and rinsing off the engine parts) and a big roll of paper towels. It takes a couple of hours to do a good job if the engine hasn't been detailed in a few months, but the end result is well worth the labor.

When I bought my corvette you couldn’t tell what color the motor was. I used gunk engine cleaner and then took fantastic to the plastic parts. I then went back over all of the aluminum with Mothers. I used Stoner products on the plastic to shine it up. As far as spraying the motor, I used a garden hose and let if rip. I didn't hold anything back. Key is not to spray around the water pump in front of the motor. Now keep in mind I've got a 96 which has the updated version or the opti-spark that has the vent system. I have a friend that washes his and it is a 94. He has gotten the motor to wet before and he just parked it in the sun for a few hours and it started right up. So don't panic if you do wash it and it doesn’t want to run. Give a few hours in the sun and try it. I would be very careful with the older version opti-spark when washing but it can be done.

ADDED COMMENT: I don't recommend cleaning an Lt-1 on a weekly base with a water hose but to get the engine really clean it can be done without damaging the Opti-spark. Then you can maintain it with hand cleaning and using bottled air.

Thanks; it just turned 20,000 last month. I'm the second owner. The couple I bought it from used it for a weekend car so it had no sun damage but it had been driven it in the rain. I bought it for a Show car and weekend toy to drive on sunny days (I'm lucky we have a lot of sunny weather:D). I've got about 150 hours of detailing in it now and the under side looks like the motor:crazy: . However, It gets driven to ALL Car shows including Bowling Green Ky. were I had it in the National show up there this past July. That was a lot of fun!! :yesnod:
