4.10s and Canyon Carving

4.10 gears only shifts your gears lower; maybe good for the drag strip but little value on the road. I've found 3rd & 4th in the current setup to be excellent in canyons.

I agree. If the car has had engine mods which raise the power band and the power band is narrower than the original then sure I might consider it. Drag Racing or you have a Stump in the back yard you need pulled out then sure. Most hot rodders consider a 10 to one ideal ratio. The ZF 1st gear times 3:73 = 10. But I would only do this if a different Cam Shaft has been installed that has raised the RPM scale a bit.

It’s not just lower shift points, it’s increased torque to the wheels and a power band that comes on at lower RPM.
This is experienced as increased throttle response, which can be fun.
Whether that translates well into the style of driving we’re talking about is debatable, thus the conversation.
Grateful for everyone’s input. A lot of experience/expertise to be found here.

I just finished going from 3.54s to 3.90s in my 85 Zf6 swapped car. I am eventually going to run a 280xfi cam so I wanted to be able to run closer to 2000rpm at highway speeds in sixth. I also hated having to downshift into first for slow speed driving around parking lots. Went for a brief break in run last night and it is definitely and improvement, even with the limited rpm of my stock L98

One thing I found is that the less shifting you do, the smoother and quicker you will go.
Going to 4.10's will mean you'll be spending less time in each gear, and doing more up- and down-shifting on the mountain roads.
While that's a lot of fun, it's not always the fastest way in the twisties.
Squirrelly? That's up to you.

FWIW, if I could do it over again i'd do a set of 3.73's over 4.10's.
